Some of you may have seen that artistic representation of Jesus riding a raptor. I’m fairly certain that happened in the Bible…somewhere. But what about a samurai instead? Well, you will almost get your wish, as a dinosaur and a samurai game go free on the Epic Games Store today. Ark: Survival Evolved has been around for about five years, and is celebrating by going free on Epic’s store. It’s joined by Samurai Shodown Neo Geo Collection, which includes seven games from the fighting series. We also know what games are next.
We expected Ark: Survival Evolved to be this week’s free game on the store. Several games to be listed at EGS were leaked in late March. That leak proved to be true, as Borderlands: The Handsome Collection went free a week later, and now have Ark bringing up the rear.
As mentioned, Ark has been around the block. The game has been around for about five years, and was released out of early access in 2017. To celebrate its anniversary, not only is it going free, the developer released a new map. Crystal Isles should be playable by the time you read this, and offers a new area to explore and another dino to tame: the Tropeognathus. It’s a flying beast, so pack some barf bags.
While you were out taming dinosaurs, I was studying the blade
The second game is actually just a bunch of games. Samurai Shodown Neo Geo Collection contains seven Samurai Shodown games, including one that was never released. The collection includes Samurai Shodown, Samurai Shodown II, Samurai Shodown III, Samurai Shodown IV, Samurai Shodown V, and Samurai Shodown V Special. The final one on the list, the aforementioned unreleased game, is Samurai Shodown V Perfect — a different version of Samurai Shodown V Special. That’s a lot of samurai. And now I’ve written Samurai Shodown so much the words sound weird.
You can get Samurai Shodown Neo Geo Collection and Ark: Survival Evolved for free over at the Epic Games Store this week. The next free games are Pathway and The Escapists 2.
