ArenaNet statement on Guild Wars 2 ‘overflow’ bug

If you’ve been playing Guild Wars 2, as both Paul and Tim have over the past few days (click their names for early impression pieces), you’ll most likely have noticed problems with the game’s ‘overflow’ feature. Essentially, when an area or instance gets overloaded, it starts pushing players to an overflow server.

That sounds better than waiting in a queue, but it has the unwelcome effect of separating you from your friends and has also been causing one or two other issues.

Here’s ArenaNet’s official statement on the situation. No giggling at the phrase “back end systems” please.

“We currently have a couple serious bugs with one of our important back end systems. This error is causing the loss of trading post, players to sometimes be separated and unable to travel to each other when switching maps and entering overflow servers, and numerous guild errors. We are very sorry for this inconvenience and are currently working around the clock to try and remedy this error.”

“When this bug is fixed overflow servers will keep parties together and players will be able to travel to the same overflow server as any friend or guild member who is in an overflow.”

Hopefully this will be resolved fairly quickly, so people can carry on playing with friends and guild members.
