Areal to get alpha version once funded

Now that Areal is off Kickstarter and on its own site there’s more info.

West Games are busy attempting to crowd fund Areal away from Kickstarter following the suspension and they sent us a few nuggets of info this morning. First up they say they are planning to add an FAQ to the official site and forums are also set to open soon for backers and general site visitors. New 3D models and concept art are also coming to the their art section to show progress.

One of the main concerns has been the lack of footage released since the crowd funding began but they continue to push forwards. Today they revealed that if the funding goal of $50,000 is reached they will release an alpha version of the game which would be released within 4 months. We assume this will be for backers only.

According to the current fund counter on the site $12,500 has been raised so far for this “spiritual successor to STALKER” which is still a long way short of their goal. With no Kickstarter clock ticking down it’s impossible to tell how long it will take to raise the $50K or where the funds come from.

It’s been a wild ride for this game so we’ll have to wait and see what happens, and if it even eventually materialises. This was  one of the most frustrating Kickstarters we’ve ever seen with all kinds of mud-slinging not only from potential backers but also from the developers who did not handle the situation well.

With the gaming community now concerned about the game’s legitimacy we’re not quite sure where the funds are going to come from. If West Games are serious about this project they need to find that money fast and from a source away from the gaming community. Once there’s something real to show opinions on West Games and Areal could change.
