If Xbox Live is down, then you don’t get to play online with your friends. First, you need to check if Xbox Live is down, then you need to see why, and finally, you can check out some fixes you can try.
When you’re experiencing Xbox Live server issues, there are only two things to blame: Microsoft servers or your connection. In this guide, I’ll help you check both to determine which problem you’re facing.

How to check if Xbox Live is down
Before you get to trying to fix an issue that might not be on your side, you need to check if Xbox Live is down. Since that answer is constantly changing, there are a few places to check if Xbox Live is down. The two best places to check in my opinion are Dowddetector and the Xbox Live status page.
On the Xbox Live Downdetector site, you’ll see a graph of user-reported errors with Xbox Live. You can also scroll down and see comments from people which include their issues.
On the official Microsoft Xbox Live status page, you’ll find an official report from Microsoft stating which functions of Xbox are up and running, limited, or experiencing a major outage. When I checked just now, the “games and gaming” section has a limited symbol and credited it to Destiny 2 maintenance, which shouldn’t be affecting all of Xbox Live so that is something Bungie needs to sort out.
How to fix Xbox Live down errors
If you have checked both those sites and neither says Xbox Live is down, then the issue is on your end. If that’s the case, there are two quick and easy fixes you can try.
Check your internet connection
First, you need to check your internet. This includes making sure your router is communicating properly, ensuring there isn’t an outage in your area, and checking that your Xbox is securely connected to your WiFi.
If you are on WiFi and your router is working, I recommend connecting an ethernet cable from your router to your Xbox. By doing this, you’ll have a solid connection that can’t be interrupted. This is the only way to ensure that your internet connection isn’t to blame for your Xbox Live errors.
Restart your Xbox
Another simple fix that can help bring Xbox Live back online for you is to restart your device. You’ve probably heard that a thousand times, but it’s true. Giving your Xbox a chance to shut down all applications and boot up fresh will help establish a solid connection to Xbox Live.
