Ultimate ability: Skyward Dive
Valkyrie’s Ultimate isn’t going to win you any games in Apex Legends. And it won’t save your life or give you the edge in the middle of a close-quarters fight. What it will do is help you target and hunt down more enemies or reposition to safer or more advantageous locations. Skyward Dive works a lot like a Jump Tower. The ability charges for two seconds and then, when you choose, it will shoot you and any connected teammates into the air. You will then drop back to the ground the same way you do after using a Jump Tower.
Being able to cover such a great distance means that your team can take fights on the edge of the ring without the fear of getting trapped outside it. It’s a very good idea to carry a Heat Shield as Valkyrie, because then you can even use her Skyward Dive outside the ring. Enemies will usually leave you alone as they scramble to get back into zone. This will give you the time you need to launch and soar to a better, and safer, position.
Take the fight to the enemy
Using Skyward Dive gives away your position. So, if you want to use it to gather intel and not reposition, you should leave your teammates on the ground and use the Ultimate solo. You can call out where nearby enemies are to your teammates. The enemies will be focused on you, thinking you’re alone or simply because you’re the obvious target. That will give your allies an opportunity to sneak up on the enemy team and get some good hits in to open the fight.
You can also use Valkyrie’s Ultimate to scout for enemies in your vicinity, which is a trait that’s highly sought after in some of the other characters of Apex Legends. While skydiving back to the ground, any enemies within 250m and in your line of sight will be highlighted with a triangle on your HUD. So, even if you don’t need to reposition, you can use the Ultimate to gather intel on enemy locations. If there’s one squad or some stragglers, you can try and take them out. If there are a few squads in the area, you can relocate to a more advantageous position.
Canceling the Ultimate will only use 25% of your Ultimate charge. So, don’t be afraid to cancel it if you need to change tactics. You’ll have it back again in no time.
As you can see from this Apex Legends guide, there’s a lot you can do with Valkyrie and her abilities. The jetpack takes a little getting used to. However, once you get the hang of it, you’ll feel a freedom of movement like no other Legend offers.
