Apex Legends Mirage guide to movement and playstyle
Unfortunately, Mirage isn’t one of the meta characters. This is simply because mobility reigns supreme in Apex Legends. If he gets pinned down or cut off from his team, Mirage cannot easily escape. Sure, his Ultimate Ability could save you, but it’s not as reliable as a Pathfinder Grappling Hook or Octane Jump Pad.
The holographic trickster is also bad in open areas. He doesn’t have the mobility you need to close an enemy or make it to cover. Plus, his Tactical and Passive abilities become very obvious if enemies see you activate them.
With that in mind, you should always try to move in areas that give you ways to break line of sight with enemies. Buildings, rocks, walls, debris, and so on all work well. Anything will do, and the more cluttered the terrain is the better it is for Mirage. Once you’re out of sight, even for a moment, you can get creative. And that’s when the fun begins as Mirage.
You can run around a corner and then send a decoy running off at a different angle while you take cover or run the other way. Enemies will go for the decoy before realizing it isn’t you, which buys you the time you need to get away or into a better position. If you only have a small obstacle to break line of sight with, you can send out a hologram to draw fire, but you stop in place behind the obstacle. This will give you time to heal a little and plan your next move.
Mirage is listed as an Offensive Legend, but that doesn’t tell you much about how the character should truly be played. You can’t go diving into engagements like Wraith or Octane, who can use their abilities to retreat. If you overextend with Mirage, you’re going to have a bad time.
I’d describe Mirage as an aggressive intelligence gatherer. You can run ahead or wide of your teammates and cast your net out even wider with holograms. Fish for intel, but don’t wander too far. Your team can benefit a lot from your abilities, but only if you’re within range.
