Apex Legends Mirage guide – tips and tricks for the trickster

Mirage is no joke.

Tactical ability: Psyche Out

Recommended Videos

If you want to get more value out of Mirage, you need to master his Tactical ability. It has a lot of potential for creative plays and is an excellent tool for finding where your enemies are positioned. Since the rework, it has become much easier to fool players into thinking your hologram is actually you.

When running, you should constantly send out decoys in different directions. The goal is to lure enemies into firing at them and giving away their positions. Another perk of the rework is that enemy positions are now revealed to you and your team if they damage your decoy. Therefore, the more decoys you send out, the more chances you have to gain intel.

Sending a decoy out directly in front of you and taking control of it after a few seconds is another good tactic with Mirage. You can use the decoy to run as bait in front of you. If an enemy shoots at it, you’ll know you’re running into trouble.

My favorite trick with Mirage, and possibly the best tip in this Apex Legends guide, is to use his holograms to peek hills and corners. Send the decoy a few meters ahead and then take control of it. If you’re peeking a hill, you stay low while moving side to side and tapping crouch. If you’re behind a corner, do the same thing, but stand to the side of your decoy instead of behind it.

Apex Legends Mirage Psyche Out Peeking

You can see two tricks in action in this clip. I use the hologram to run ahead and encounter enemies and then “peek” with the hologram to lure fire and reveal the enemy’s location.

The overriding tip to using Psyche Out is to take control of the holograms before a player sees you and make it behave like a normal player might. Be mindful of enemy positioning and movement. If you’re too obvious, you’re not going to fool anyone.

Keep that in mind when dropping at the beginning of matches too. Psyche Out now allows Mirage to create decoys of his entire team while skydiving – previously it was just Mirage, which was useless. Do not separate from your team. Otherwise, it will only create a decoy of you. Also, when you send out your skydiving decoys, remember that they move in a straight line. You and your team will need to do the same.

As a final note about decoys, try not to shoot them off the map or too far away. The decoy’s movement speed will increase over time which will give the ruse away.
