Usefulness and shortcomings
My thoughts on Caustic now are much different than they were during Apex Legends Season 1. I don’t think I would have considered him a well-rounded player at the start. This has become more apparent when embracing his abilities and not necessarily treating him as an assault-style character such as Bangalore or Octane. I’ve also found that his holstered sprint and slide/jump/cancel has a nice snap to them now, allowing for quicker leaps and slides.
Even with his well-rounded abilities and guide tips, there are still many ways that Caustic can be halted in his tracks in Apex Legends. For starters, shooting any one of his Nox Gas Trap drops can completely disable them. As well, his passive ability really doesn’t do much outside of helping him in a room filled with poisonous gas. Teammates can still be blinded by the fumes, leaving enemies to escape or even be problematic to your own teammates if they’re caught with their heads literally in the clouds.
As previously mentioned, Caustic isn’t the most speedy character, which also limits his ability to pull off evasive maneuvers. It all comes down to how you play. Do you run in without caution or fall back to hold a defensive line? That can really dictate your next move as the maestro of the odious fug.
