Apex Legends Season 8 Caustic guide

"My gas wafts through the air as if dancing with death."

Inventory selection

I’ll be the first to admit that preferred weapons and equipment in Apex Legends is highly subjective. Whether you prefer heavy or light ammo, small shields over doubles, or syringes over medkits — it varies by playstyle. With the latest season, item availability and character buffs might help determine what to carry and what to ditch. For this Caustic guide, here are my preferred equipment and weapon choices in Apex Legends.

In the case of playing as Caustic, I find myself leaning more and more into heavy ammo weaponry. Since he isn’t the most mobile of characters, it’s much easier to deliver damage from a distance with the new 30-30 Repeater or unload a full heavy extended mag. If you can’t track one down with the right attachments, an R-301 can fill its spot. Switching from automatic to single fire goes a long way in a firefight, just be cautious of your ammo levels.

Apex Legends Season 8 seemingly has an abundance of blue, purple, and now gold magazine variants. It’s now easier to obtain a gold extended mag with the use of a grenade to breach a hull or if you have a Loba on your team. She can help you get the tools you need much quicker with her Black Market shop — along with a bigger backpack.

Caustic Inventory Building

In Apex Legends Season 8, I seem to come across the 2X Bruiser more than ever. The sight works well for distanced shots with both the Spitfire and 30-30 Repeater. If you don’t hold down the fire button and let the Spitfire bounce, you can chirp out a cadence of shots that will hit their target from longer distances. I’d also recommend finding a level two stock and barrel stabilizer for accuracy as soon as possible. As well, 55 rounds can go a long way in close-quarters confrontations and will automatically reload your weapon when holstered with the level four extended heavy mag. When your Nox Gas Trap is in use and 55 rounds whizzing overhead, panic sets in, and mistakes are made.

Building 3

In terms of ammo, whether you choose energy, heavy, or light weapons, I’ve found that sticking with two weapons of the same ammo type is the best strategy. In this case, you can simply hunt for heavy ammo without partitioning off your inventory to hold different types. The same problem can be said if you completely run out, though. This has only happened on rare occasions and it all depends on your team composition. At a minimum, I usually carry the following items:

  • As much heavy ammo as possible
  • 2-4x Shield Battery
  • 4x Shield Cell
  • 4x syringes
  • 2x Medkits
  • 1x Arc Star/1x Frag Grenade/1x Thermite Grenade or 3x Frag Grenades

At a minimum, I try to fill my inventory with these items. That way your focus can then be on stocks and barrel stabilizers instead of scavenging for more loot. I generally tend to load up on Shield Batteries going into the final circles. Shield Cells take three seconds with a Shield Battery taking five. It all depends on what you feel is crucial to refill.
