Respawn Entertainment has shown it is not afraid to experiment with the core gameplay of Apex Legends. It has done an excellent job with events and limited-time modes that don’t impact the main game modes of casual and ranked. In a recent post on the Apex Legends website, Design Director Jason McCord revealed a new experiment coming in an event called Battle Armor. The event will start on April 28 and run until the Season 5 start date of May 12.

The Apex Legends Battle Armor event will run for 14 days and will experiment with different twists on armor every few days. Each iteration of the event will remove all types of armor from the game, except for one. Players will drop into the game with this armor already equipped, as well as a trusty (not really) P2020. To be clear, players will not be able to find any more armor on the map. However, there will be Shield Cells and Batteries to top off what you have.

In the past, the community has suggested that Respawn let players begin an Apex Legends match with level one armor and a gun. Call of Duty: Warzone has implemented this system very successfully. So, perhaps Respawn has now decided it is worth looking into. Plus, Evo Armor could make this very interesting.

Battle Armor event schedule

  • From 10:00 a.m. PDT on April 28 to 10:00 a.m. PDT on May 2, the Battle Armor event will drop Apex players into World’s Edge with level one (white) armor only.
  • Then from 10:01 a.m. PDT on May 2 to 10:00 a.m. PDT on May 6, players will drop with level two (blue) armor only.
  • Between 10:01 a.m. PDT on May 6 and 10:00 a.m. PDT on May 9, Apex players will drop with level three (purple) armor only.
  • Finally, from 10:01 a.m. PDT on May 9 to 12:00 a.m. PDT on May 12, players will drop with Evo Armor equipped.

In all likelihood, Respawn will primarily pay attention to the first test with level one armor and the last one with Evo armor. Variations of these two could conceivably make it into the core game.

Apex Legends Season 4 has been extended by a week to accommodate the Battle Armor event. Plus, to help players reach the end of their battle passes, top-five finishes in all modes will reward double level XP during the event.
