SuperData Research analysts have been spending their time trying to figure out how many copies Destiny 2 will sell in three months. Time well spent I know.

According to the Superdata experts, they reckon Destiny 2 will shift 3 million digital copies on the PC in three months and a total of between 4 and 5 million across PC and console. It’s all speculative but they have based their numbers on the what they are calling the SuperData Forecaster which works out sales probabilities for upcoming major releases. This new Forecaster takes into account “a quantitative analysis of historical sell-through across 500+ titles, enabling a more accurate estimate of future success for upcoming titles.”

How did Superdata come up with the Destiny 2 sales numbers? They have based the sale prediction on it’s positioning within Blizzard’s BattleNet client and the early pre-holiday release date. It’s not rocket science to realise that BattleNet will have a positive impact on sales which is why Destiny 2 has been put on the platform in the first place.

To compare their numbers, the first game sold 1.6 million in digital sales but that was only on the console. Whether PC games embrace the franchise when there are so many more PC games to choose from remains to be seen but BattleNet is going to play a major part in pushing sales for Destiny 2.
