American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2 getting new 2020 expansions

Idaho and Iberia are the next spots for the growing worlds of SCS' truck sims.

SCS Software has been busy throughout 2019 with new map expansions for both American Truck Simulator and Euro Truck Simulator 2. This year, we saw the release of Washington and also Utah (which came in just a few weeks ago). for ATS. ETS2 fans got to sink into three different countries, with the recently-released Road to the Black Sea expansion which added Romania, Bulgaria, and a portion of Turkey.

These three map expansions have added a nice level of depth to each of SCS’ already well-detailed worlds. With 2020 now coming up fast, the team has excitedly revealed what the next steps for each of the truck-sims are going to be.

American Truck Simulator heads east to Idaho

Unsurprisingly, Idaho will be the next state added to the world of ATS. SCS set this up pretty nicely with the aforementioned release of Utah, signaling that the team had its eyes set eastward.

The new state spans two timezones and has quite a variety of terrain. From the Rocky Mountains to swaths of farmland and rolling hillsides, Idaho sounds like a nature lover’s paradise; another step outside of the barren, desert land that covers most of the already present California, Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico.

Here’s a description of the upcoming expansion:

Idaho is a northwestern U.S. state known for mountainous landscapes, and vast swaths of protected wilderness and outdoor recreation areas. The capital, Boise, is set in the Rocky Mountain foothills and is bisected by the Boise River, which is popular for rafting and fishing.

The state covers two time zones, runs from Canada to Nevada, and encompasses the western side of the continental divide of the Rocky Mountains. Rivers, mountains and farmland dominate the state’s landscape. The panhandle has emerald green hillsides, timbered mountains and pristine lakes. Central Idaho is covered with jagged peaks. The Snake River Plain, with its wide-open vistas, irrigated farmlands and vibrant cities forms the character of Southern Idaho.

No release date just yet, but it’s set to launch sometime in 2020.

Explore Iberia in Euro Truck Simulator 2

Similar to the aforementioned Road to the Black Sea expansion, Euro Truck Simulator 2 will be getting yet another multi-country pack in the form of Iberia.

Iberia is not a single country but refers to the collection of countries located in the Iberian Peninsula which juts out of southwestern Europe. This primarily includes Spain and Portugal but also includes the nation of Andorra and the UK-owned territory of Gibraltar.

SCS describes Iberia like this:

The Iberian Peninsula – or simply, Iberia – is a peninsula located in the southwest corner of Europe. The peninsula is the second largest peninsula on the continent in terms of size, taking up over 230,000 square miles. It is also the second most populous peninsula in Europe with a population of over 57 million people.

This region has over 2,000 miles of coastline and is home to multiple major rivers including the Ebro and the Tagus. Most of the Iberian Peninsula is mountainous with major mountain systems including the Pyrenees, the Sistema Central, and the Baetic System, just to name a few.

Similar to Idaho, no definitive release date has been revealed yet. But, again, it’s poised for a launch at some point in 2020.

It should prove to be exciting to see both these beautiful new maps in action. The handful of screenshots that SCS has released on Steam already looks mighty fine, so I’m already personally interested in checking these new expansions further whenever they release.
