Amazon Game Studios, currently known for creating titles for the in-house Fire tablet, are now officially making a PC game of some sort. An “ambitious” one, no less.
The information comes via the slightly unusual route of a sponsored job listing at Gamasutra, which name-drops (or game-drops) the fact that members of their Seattle team have worked on titles like Portal, BioShock, Half-Life 2, Shadows of Mordor, The Last of Us and a bunch more.
Amazon Game Studios currently employ Kim Swift (so that’s your Portal connection,) and Clint Hocking (Splinter Cell, Far Cry,) so they’re not exactly bluffing about having the design talent there.
As for what kind of “ambitious new PC game project” they’re working on, that’s harder to determine. There aren’t really any specifics listed in the posting, but some clues can perhaps be gathered from the intent to “build great teams who are excited to use Twitch, the AWS cloud, and technical innovation to radically evolve gameplay.”
To me, that hints at online aspects (the cloud) and social participation (Twitch,) but I might be reading far too much into that broad statement. Maybe it’s going to be an accountancy management sim about how to avoid overseas taxation.
