Alone in the Dark: Illumination beta opens for pre-orders

The beta for Alone in the Dark: Illumination will open tomorrow for those who’ve plonked their money down.

This initial beta period will offer players a chance to explore the first environment (the Coal Mines) in single-player, as the Hunter. The full version will offer co-op multiplayer with four classes – the Hunter, the Witch, the Priest, and the Engineer – and, obviously, multiple environments.

All of which is probably making you think “that doesn’t sound very Alone, let alone very Alone in the Dark“, and you’d probably be right. What I’ve seen looks quite a lot like a third-person shooter, which is a bit worrying. It… might turn out to be good? Maybe?

Yeah, I don’t know either. There’s a second beta phase planned before launch, which I suspect will feature some sort of co-op.

Alone in the Dark: Illumination is due out in spring 2015, priced at $29.99, while the first beta phase opens on 29 January (tomorrow) for those who’ve pre-ordered.
