In Return to Moria, you’ll be able to craft special items called “Masterworks.” These incredible pieces of kit can only be held one at a time, but their abilities are worth it.
All Masterworks Ranked in Return to Moria
Below are the four primary Masterworks in Return to Moria. I have omitted the Masterworks that relate to the story due to spoilers — and as they aren’t that useful outside of their plot relevance. So, you can imagine where I’d place them in this ranking. Also, they don’t count toward the Masterwork Achievement.
From worst to best, here is the ranking.
Wanderkeg
The Wanderkeg allows you to store a large amount of booze for your party’s drinking pleasure. In theory, this could become a near-endless supply of your favorite buff, which does make it valuable. However, it is expensive and takes a lot of time to brew what you want.
The Wanderkeg is the best Masterwork if a true Dwarf were making this list. Unfortunately, I’m a human. As a solo player, I never needed brews outside of the Elven healing brew. However, one dosage was fine for me, and so the Brewskin was all I needed. This made the Wanderkeg rather redundant, although it was the one I found the most amusing.
Zarok Torch
The Zarok Torch is a bright torch that never runs out and sits on your back when you’re not using it. This prevents light and torches from being a problem at all. However, it is more of a convenience than something truly game-changing.
I actually probably used this Masterwork the most, as the constant light it provided was incredibly useful. It also allowed me to equip a shield and still see the enemies I was facing off against. However, it can’t rank higher as a simple convenience and can be substituted by building Hearths everywhere to light all the dark places.

Quarrymaster
The Quarrymaster is an incredible tool that carves out great chunks into stone and mines at over double the damage of a regular pickaxe. It requires lots of energy to use but makes light work of any ore vein you need to harvest.
I loved using the Quarrymaster. It made mining so effortless. It doesn’t take the top spot on this list as it is simply an over-glorified pickaxe that can easily be substituted by… a pickaxe. Granted, it makes mining much quicker, but that’s all it does. It also consumes a lot of energy if you’re not singing a mining song.
Shield Wall
The Shield Wall is the best shield in the game. Alongside nullifying pretty much all damage, it also has infinite durability. This means that it can essentially make you invulnerable without a drawback, allowing you to always escape your enemies without the fear of time.
I personally never used the Shield Wall until the late game, and for some encounters, I wished I had it! The Shield Wall takes the top spot due to it making players invulnerable, which is especially useful for solo players. It makes the perfect getaway that also allows you to run into a horde and not have to worry about damage. It’s awesome.
