Lords of the Fallen hosts an array of incredible combat moves that you need to master if you want any hope of taking down the toughest enemies and the strongest of bosses. The game provides quite a move set, so you’ll want to be mindful of every technique in your arsenal to be as effective as possible. Some enemies will require differing moves or skills, and you’ll have to make the proper judgment calls. So, make notes or keep this guide in the forefront of your mind as you play the game to be truly unstoppable.
All combat moves in Lords of the Fallen
Below is every move you’ll need to know to get around and defeat every opponent. Make sure you commit these to memory! I’ve listed the controls for each move for a keyboard, Xbox controller, and PlayStation controller, respectively. Master each of these techniques, and you’ll be chopping through enemies like no one’s business.
All melee moves in Lords of the Fallen
Light attack – The first attack option for your weapon, usually the fastest. You can keep attacking with light attacks or throw in heavy attacks to chain a combo together. To use, click M1, RB, or R1.
Heavy attack – The second attack option for your weapon, usually slower, but with extended reach. You can keep attacking with heavy attacks or throw in light attacks to chain a combo together. Unlike typical convention, the heavy attacks don’t do more damage than the light attacks. To use, click M2, RT, or R2.
Charged heavy attack – This attack takes a couple of seconds to charge but will deliver higher damage to health and posture, especially from behind. To use, hold M2, RT, or R2.
Multi-hit attack – This attack has more than one move and should be used in crowded situations. To use, click Shift+M2, RT+LB, or R2+L1.
Grievous strike – When an enemy’s posture is depleted, the lock-on dot will turn red. Go in front of the enemy and click M1, RB, or R1 to deliver a grievous strike, causing massive damage.
Kick – A kick will knock back the enemy and deliver posture damage, especially if hit from behind. To kick, click Shift+M1, RB+LB, or R1+L1.
All ranged and magical moves in Lords of the Fallen
Quick shot – While you’ve equipped and are using your ranged weapon, click M1, RB, or R1 to shoot (or load!) your selected ammunition.
Aimed shot – While you’ve equipped and are using your ranged weapon, hold M2, RT, or R2 to aim, providing the direction your shot will go in. Depending on the ranged weapon, this may also charge up your attack, meaning it will deliver higher damage. Releasing the button will release the ammunition. Note that while locked onto a target, clicking M2, RT, or R2 will actually result in a quick shot.
Spell cast – While you’ve equipped and are using your catalyst, click the corresponding button on the lower right to cast the respective spell that you have equipped for that catalyst.
All Umbral Lamp moves in Lords of the Fallen
Soulflay – While you’ve equipped and are using your Umbral Lamp, lock on to an enemy and click M2, RT, or R2. The soulflayed enemy’s soul can be hit repeatedly to apply lots of wither damage. Hitting the enemy when they’ve returned to normal will turn all of that wither damage into regular damage. Enemies, while soulflayed, can be pushed around. This consumes a Soulflay charge.
Siphon – While you’ve equipped and are using your Umbral Lamp, hold M1, RB, or R1. This will destroy Umbral parasites, and if locked on to an Umbral Blister or enemy, will slowly fill a Soulflay charge.
All evasive and defensive maneuvers in Lords of the Fallen
Dash – Dashing allows you to evade enemy strikes or projectiles. To dash, click Space, B, or Circle. Be mindful that you will dash in the direction you are moving. If stationary, you will dash backward.
Roll – Rolling is an extended dash that covers a larger distance. To roll, double-click Space, B, or Circle. Be mindful that you will roll in the direction you are moving. If stationary, you will roll backward.
Block – Blocking reduces damage from enemy strikes and converts it into wither damage, saving your skin. To block, hold Shift, LB, or L1.
Parry – A parry will significantly damage the enemy’s posture and will block damage and convert any leftover damage into wither damage. To parry, click Shift, LB, or L1 just as the opponent’s strike is about to hit you.
Combining all of these strategies will make combat fun, skillful, and sometimes easy. If you want the secret to combat in all Soulslike games: simply become a parry master. That’s all.
