Remnant 2 lets you choose one of five Archetypes near the start of the game. These Archetypes are essentially just different classes that allow you to specialize in certain roles. As such, nearly every kind of player will have an Archetype that suits their playstyle perfectly. Whether you like to face your enemies up close and personal or like to stay back and pick them off from afar. Remnant 2 lets you play the game your way and each Archetype has its positives. But here we’re going to break down the best Archetypes in Remnant 2.
Best class in Remnant 2
#5 Hunter
The Hunter Archetype has its benefits for players that like to pick foes off at a distance in Remnant 2. And that’s not something to scoff at since Remnant 2 features massive areas where its ranged affinity will come in handy. But the Hunter’s abilities tend to fall short in encounters against opponents that get too close. And it really struggles to perform well in some boss fights with smaller arenas. From a single-player point of view, the Hunter’s Skills won’t be all that useful in situations like that. But in a team, it definitely has its uses for providing support. Either way, this Archetype unfortunately stays at the bottom of the list.
#4 Handler
Remnant 2‘s single-player mode is a little less stressful with the Handler Archetype. With the Handler, you’ll be able to summon a friendly pet companion that can provide support in combat. The Handler’s most valuable skill is Support Dog which lets their animal buddy heal allies within 3.5m. And then, if the Handler ever gets downed, the companion can try to revive them. This makes some fights much easier by giving you a free pass if you mess up. The Handler’s only this far down the list because you have to rely on the companion for help, and without it, this class doesn’t have much else to offer.
#3 Gunslinger
The Gunslinger is by far the coolest-looking Archetype in Remnant 2. Honestly, it’s hard to make a cowboy not look cool in any setting you put them in. And when it comes to soulslikes, there aren’t many of those that you grab a six iron and fulfill the dream. The Gunslinger’s major role in Remnant 2 is that of a damage dealer. Its skills all revolve around making you more dangerous. Whether that’s by increasing your damage output or providing you with infinite ammo for a time. It’s arguably the best class to go with if you’re in single-player, and it works brilliantly in a squad too.
#2 Challenger
In a game like Remnant 2, you either have to be good at avoiding attacks or taking them. And the Challenger is an Archetype that excels at the latter. There’s not much to say about the Challenger other than that it’s the tank of Remnant 2. It can take a lot of punishment, and its skills let you perform a wide area of effect attack, or buff your already decent defense. The main drawback of the Challenger is that its armor will affect your weight stat and make your dodge slower and cost more stamina. But that might not matter much if you’re able to soak up a lot of damage and take out enemies before it begins to matter. All in all the Challenger is definitely one of the best Archetypes in Remnant 2.
#1 Medic
Remnant 2 is a hard game, and it’s one where every shred of health counts. So, choosing a class that can heal and provide shields for allies is undoubtedly useful. I would almost say it’s necessary for a full team to help you push through some of Remnant 2’s tougher encounters. The Medic is also a very good choice in single-player for the same reasons. Its main drawback is that it doesn’t have any skills or perks that massively increase its damage output. But out of all archetypes in Remnant 2, it’s a class that you’ll likely get the most mileage out of.
You’ll need to choose your Archetype carefully in Remnant 2. But don’t worry about wanting to try out other classes since you can easily just start a new character and see which one works best for you. You also get to choose a secondary Archetype later in the game, so it would be worth messing around with the other options to think about which one you’d like to choose.
