All 16 Iconic COD maps in MW3 confirmed
The developers confirmed 16 iconic CoD maps at launch during the Call of Duty NEXT event. The following maps were mentioned during the reveal, and these include many fan favorites:
- Rust
- Skid Row
- Favela
- Estate
- High Rise
- Karachi
- Invasion
- Afghan
- Derail
- Underpass
- Scrapyard
We got to see plenty of high-level gameplay on several maps, including Rust, Favela, and High Rise. It’s such a treat to see these legendary maps playable again, and they look just as I remember. The developers mentioned they wanted the maps to feel how they did when they originally dropped 14 years ago. Some changes have been made to account for new movement options, but the core of each area remains intact. Movement abilities like Mantling didn’t exist when MW2 first came out so maps have been tweaked to account for that.
Footage of High Rise showed players sneaking around the sides of the map by the Helipad, which is something we could do in the original. I only know those spots so well because players used to ‘nuke boost’ there, but they do provide safer routes across an exposed part of the map.
Rust is a small chaotic map around a structure in the desert. This locale looks unchanged from the original and provides the same frenetic close-range battles as before. If anyone challenges you to an old-fashioned ‘1v1 Quickscopes only match,’ I’m sure you can relive those as well.
Are there any new maps?
The developers confirmed several new maps, including three for Ground War, are coming at launch. It sounds like content will be added to the game through the year, similar to Modern Warfare 2. An additional three maps are confirmed to drop every Season for a total of 12 maps through the year. As well as new maps, the developers boasted that MW3 will have the largest weapon pool out of every Call of Duty title at launch.
