NCsoft has announced that its upcoming MMORPG, Aion, has received almost 400,000 pre-orders, wiping the floor with competing MMOs.Aion has already won several awards in the gaming industry including Gamescom 2009’s “Best Online Game” and PAX’s “Best MMO” by Inside Gaming. We wrote a series of previews on the game during the closed beta period, and agree with the majority of Aion testers that it will cause a stir in the MMO community. Aion has been out in Korean for almost a year but, unlike other Eastern MMOs, the game was developed to appeal to players in both the east and west. The storyline was completely re-written for European and American audiences, and has a number of western character creation styles. The players who have pre-ordered the game are free to pre-select their servers from tomorrow before the Headstart period begins on Sunday, 20 September. The game launches in NA on 22 September and in Europe and the UK on 25 September.
