FarmVille is a much loved farmland management game that was released in 2009. However, the developers, Zynga has announced that the game will be shutting down. Unfortunately, FarmVille will not continue to be supported as Adobe will stop updating Flash Player. Consequently, Facebook will also stop supporting Flash Player games. The important announcement was made through a post on its help page. FarmVille is not the only game with an announcement that it would be shutting down. Recently, it was announced that the Disintegration multiplayer servers would be shutting down.
You can still play FarmVille until December 31. In app purchases will end on November 17 and then it will be permanently shut off. As the game will not be accepting any payments after this point, it is important to note that refunds will not be accepted either. So, if you have any credits left, now might be the time to spend them.
FarmVille will end with new in-game activities
Leading up to the end of Farmville, Zynga plans to go out with a bang. In the near future, the developer will announce some in-game activities that are in the works. It will interesting to see what new content will be released before December. Also, the announcement references FarmVille 2: Tropic Escape and the launch of Farmville 3. These versions will be available on the mobile platform. As the legacy lives on in mobile format, perhaps, the developers make plans in the future to release a PC version of these titles.
After 11 years of playing FarmVille, fans may be saddened by the news that it has to shut down, especially if you have played from the beginning. With a few months left until the end of the year, there is plenty of time for you to dive into your farm one last time. With Flash Player support being gradually removed, it is likely to impact many more games. There is no doubt that the original FarmVille will be remembered due to its success and the hours of fun it provided fans.
