Adventures of Shuggy dev announces Gateways

This article is over 12 years old and may contain outdated information

If you missed out on The Adventures of Shuggy last year, you missed a fine platformer. Rather than blather on about it even more here, I’ll just direct you to my piece about why it was one of the unsung greats of 2011. This is relevant, because Smudged Cat Games has announced it’s working on a brand new 2D platformer; Gateways.
Centerpiece of the title will be the gateway gun. Now, if I say that this gun allows you to place two ‘gateways’ on, say, the floor and ceiling and walk through one to emerge from the other, your mind will probably go “ah, like Portal”. However, the twist here is that the gateway gun acquires other properties too, such as an ability that “creates two gateways of different sizes, passing through one way shrinks Ed to half his size and the other way makes Ed grow to twice his size”. Or even a feature where “one gateway doesn’t just connect to the others location but also its time, allowing Ed to travel back in time and encounter earlier versions of himself”.
Frankly, my head hurts after reading that sentence. Oh yes, the gateway gun can also manipulate gravity. Blimey.
Gateways is “coming soon” to Xbox 360 and PC. You can view the trailer and a couple more screenshots, below.
