A Game of Thrones has screenshots of thrones

This article is over 12 years old and may contain outdated information

There’s another game of a Game of Thrones on the way (the other one was the disappointing, strategy-based Genesis), as proved by this fresh set of screenshots supplied by developers Cyanide. Yep, Cyanide, the guys who made the previous Thrones effort. This one will be an RPG though, so perhaps they’ll do a better job this time.
What kind of role-playing will you be able to get up to? Well, for a start you’ll choose to either be a chap named ‘Mors’ from The Night’s Watch or ‘Alester’, a Red Priest who’s just been released from some sort of exile. I’m getting a bit of a ‘fighter or wizard’ type of vibe from that binary decision, although the press release does go on to say that you can choose your character ‘class’. Presumably that’s a choice between peasant, incestuous lord and smelly traitor.
In other news, the game will use the Unreal 3 engine and let you do some kind of mystical, magical time-slow-down during combat to allow you to make tactical choices about where to whack people with a sword (the answer is always ‘in the balls’).
Not a great deal to go on really, especially as Game of Thrones is scheduled for an ‘early 2012’ release. Hopefully there’ll be some in-game footage on offer sooner rather than later, or I’m going to start getting nervous.
