The US Army has today launched the latest version of its online FPS, America’s Army. The game, built with the Unreal 3 Engine, launches with five different maps, each with three scenario options making for 15 map/scenario combinations. To begin with, the game will focus on the Infantry Soldier and players must first complete Basic Combat Training before moving on to Advanced Individual Training in which they can learn a number of specialized roles including Grenadier and Squad Designated Marksman. The advanced training allows players to unlock new abilities and equipment and to customize their load out.
The game sports a number of new features including a new Honour system which scores players based on how their actions correspond to the seven core Army values: Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless-Service, Honor, Integrity, and Personal Courage.Players will have access to new movement options including the more stealthy tactical movement, as well as the combat roll and the combat slide.A new damage model also adds more realism to the game as a shot to the lower body will slow you down, while being hit in the upper body may affect your accuracy. In addition, Squad leaders and Fire Team leaders will have new planning options at their disposal. Squad Leaders assign targets to their Fire Team leaders, while they in turn decide where on the map to spawn. The game is available as a free download on Steam now.
