Ubisoft “sincerely apologize” for the quality of Assassin’s Creed: Unity at launch, and are giving away some free things in the hope that makes up for it. Ubisoft CEO Yannis Mallat is very sorry that Unity was kind of a technical nightmare at launch and writes: “I want to sincerely apologize on behalf of Ubisoft and the entire Assassin’s Creed team.”
But Ubisoft’s apology doesn’t just end in words. To show “appreciation for your continued support,” they’re making the upcoming Dead Kings DLC for Assassin’s Creed: Unity free for everybody. Here’s how you’ll pick it up on PC (once it’s actually out):
Once available, the Dead Kings DLC will be listed as an add-on within Uplay or in the Steam store from the ACU product page depending on where you purchased the game. You will also find a link from the in-game menu.
Hold on though, what if you purchased a Season Pass and were already going to get Dead Kings and the Assassin’s Creed side-scroller based in China? If you bought a Season Pass, Ubisoft is going to give you a free game. If you purchased “the Season Pass or Assassin’s Creed Unity Gold Edition (which includes the Season Pass),” you’ll be able to claim one of these as a freebie.
- The Crew
- Far Cry 4
- Watch Dogs
- Assassin’s Creed Black Flag
- Rayman Legends
- Just Dance 2015
The system for doing so hasn’t been set up yet (as per the instructions on this FAQ page,) but once it is you’ll have until March 2015 to redeem one of those.
Ubisoft adds that sales of the Season Pass will now be discontinued. Season Pass holders will still end up receiving all the promised bits and bobs, including Assassin’s Creed Chronicles: China.
Meanwhile, Assassin’s Creed: Unity is still being patched. Patch 3 should be out for the PC version at the end of the week.
