Epic Games sets up UK studio

Epic Games’ England-based partner studio, Pitbull Studio, has now become Epic Games UK.

Epic Games have announced that Pitbull Studio (a company formed after Midway Games Newcastle folded) have been brought into the Epic fold, and will be operating from Sunderland, Guildford, and Leamington Spa. Epic’s lead programmer James Golding recently moved from America to Guildford to “expand that location’s footprint and headcount”, so it sounds like this is only the beginning.

According to Epic’s European territory manager Mike Gamble, “Setting up a bespoke Epic presence here and fully utilizing the Pitbull team as part of that enables us to support Unreal Engine 4 developers across Europe on an entirely new level.” Pitbull have apparently been working with Epic on Unreal Engine 4 for quite some time already, having helped develop the engine’s rendering, audio, physics, visual scripting, UI, documentation tools, platform support, and more. They’ve previously contributed to Unreal engine games Silent Hill: Downpour and Gears of War: Judgment, so it sounds like they’ve got a pretty good handle on what they’re doing.

This marks the beginning of Epic’s UK expansion, with a whole host of jobs now available for the talented. While Epic US are still hiring for all sorts of positions, Epic UK are currently looking for a developer relations technical artist, an animation systems programmer, a console platform engineer, a support engineer, a tools programmer, a community manager, a developer relations manager, and, er, an “Unreal Engine Education Evangelist – Europe.” I can only assume that the successful applicant will be helping to spread the Cult of Unreal across these blighted shores and beyond. Possibly with a warhammer.

When not writing about games, Tim can occasionally be found speedrunning terrible ones, making people angry in Dota 2, or playing something obscure and random. He's also weirdly proud of his status as (probably) the Isle of Man's only professional games journalist.
