I’ve never played a Stronghold game in my life, but I do know that even an encamped army will not prevent Firefly Studios releasing the next on this year. Yes, it has been announced that Stronghold Crusader 2 will be storming the walls of Steam on 2 September.
That’s going to be a worldwide digital and retail release, which is always nice to see. All versions of the game are Steam exclusive, so even if you buy it in a box you’ll still have to pop a code into Valve’s digital honeypot of hats. However, Firefly do note that you’ll still be able to play Stronghold Crusader 2 offline by setting Steam to offline mode.
We are thrilled to finally give Stronghold players a release date for the game. Fans of the Crusader series have high hopes for Crusader 2 and although many want to get their hands on a copy as soon as possible, it was never our intent to rush the development process. Since the beginning of the project we have maintained that Crusader 2 will pop its head above the parapet only when we are happy that it is truly ready for battle … We will have a sequel worthy of the Crusader name come September 2nd.
So says Firefly’s Simon Bradbury, making fine use of the word “parapet” there. He adds that the game will be touring around events like EGX London, Rezzed and PAX East prior to release.
