Magicka: Wizard Wars explodes into open beta

Magicka: Wizard Wars has cast a spell of Open Beta, meaning anyone can hop into the 4v4 spellcaster for free.

Magicka: Wizard Wars takes the spellcasting system of Magicka, which lets you combine elements together to form unique spells, and chucks it into a team-based point-capturing arena. It’ll be free-to-play, with a variety of different weapons, robes, and powerful Magicks on offer to those who either play long enough to unlock them or (presumably) who pony up some cash to purchase them outright.

Obviously, because it’s Magicka, it’s also all about accidentally murdering your teammates. Maybe you’ll throw up a shield at the same time as someone fires a beam in that general direction, causing it to ricochet back and kill them. Maybe you’ll hurl a giant flaming rock which explodes and sets them on fire. Maybe you’ll summon down a lethal hailstorm which takes out the enemy team, as well as most of your own. In fact, there aren’t really any “maybes” about it – it will happen.

You can find out for yourself by heading on over to Steam and downloading it now. As you might expect, there’s also an amusing new trailer which you can see below.

When not writing about games, Tim can occasionally be found speedrunning terrible ones, making people angry in Dota 2, or playing something obscure and random. He's also weirdly proud of his status as (probably) the Isle of Man's only professional games journalist.
