HAWKEN now free to play on Steam for everyone

A couple of weeks ago the robot stomping shooter HAWKEN moved over Steam after shutting down the game’s original client. In that time players who had accounts were being slowly but surely moved on to the Steam platform. New players were prevented from joining the game while the user migration was underway.

The good news today is that new players can now join the game through Steam for nothing as it’s free to play. That’s a pretty big incentive to give it a try for the first time.

The move to Steam will hopefully boost player numbers, I have a feeling they had been dwindling. To give the game a chance of a solid future, moving to Steam was the obvious choice for Metepr Entertainment. With practically zero promotion for the game outside of the HAWKEN  community, it’s not surprising it may have slipped under a few radars.

The biggest problem for Meteor Entertainment in the week’s ahead is Titanfall, it ticks some of the same boxes with the added bonus of being able to hop out the mech and jump around shooting stuff. While Titanfall is not free to play, it’s looking rather special. I guess we’ll find out how good it is next week when we get stuck into the review.
