It’s so tempting isn’t it? There’s a new OS in the wild and you just want to take a peek and see what all the fuss is about but at the same time are worried about screwing up your system. The SteamOS beta is tempting but not everyone has a spare machine kicking around to experiment with.
There is however another option, set up a copy the OS using VirtualBox on your machine. AÂ guide on how to get SteamOS up and running with VirtualBox has been posted on the Steam Community pages and it’s a good place to start if you want to tinker with SteamOS now.
You will need an ISO creator, a copy of VirtualBox and a copy of the SteamOS before you do anything else. The guide will take you through each step in the process from installing the ISO right through to the SteamOS installation itself.
There’s also a video guide to getting this up and running on VirtualBox by Dan de Waal for further reference if you prefer watching rather than reading.
It’s still not an easy process but it’s worth a shot of you really want to test the SteamOS on your system right now.
