Mode 7’s Frozen Endzone – the tactical game that looks like a robosport-y successor to Frozen Synapse – will be getting a public beta at the end of this month.
In a move pretty similar to what was done with Frozen Synapse, it looks like you’ll buy into the beta and get both the full version and a free key to give to a friend on release. The beta will feature several multiplayer modes, randomly generated single-player challenges, a full soundtrack from musician nervous_testpilot, and various other goodies.
Frozen Endzone has you trying to get a ball into the opponent’s endzone by designing various plays for your team of robots to make. From what I’ve seen, it looks like you can describe it as the sports version of Frozen Synapse – it’s got the same simultaneous turn-based gameplay, and you’re still making your way through randomly generated environments. It’s just that you’re trying to get a ball from one end to the other while avoiding your opponent’s robots, instead of shooting everyone. It’s also got some rather lovely graphics instead of abstract artwork.
No word on the beta’s pricing yet.
