U-turn: Stainless rethinks Carmageddon DLC, now free for all $15 backers

I don’t think there are any screenshots out there yet, so here’s some concept art.

I’m only really hearing the conclusion to this tale, so bear with me here. Based on a new email announcement from Stainless Games and extrapolating backwards, it seems the developer had previously discussed releasing some (paid) DLC for the crowd-funded Carmageddon: Reincarnation and backers had been a little unimpressed at this suggestion.

As Stainless put it, “some commentators in the Kickstarter community made the point that it seemed unfair that the Backers weren’t now going to get the “whole” game – including all future DLC.” These complaints did not go unheeded, as the studio has discussed the situation and decided that their backers were absolutely in the right on this one. As a result, people who pledged above $15.00 USD when the game was in need of public funding will get every update for free.

“EVERY Kickstarter and Paypal Backer who pledged the $15 and above for a copy of the game will be eligible to get The Full Package. They’ll get the full, final version of Carmageddon: Reincarnation and ALL DLC, for the REST OF TIME,” confirms Stainless’ Jason Garber. So there we go. A developer listening to it’s own community in action, there.

The game should be popping up on Steam’s ‘early access’ program in the first few months of 2014. Until then, it’s still safe for pedestrians to walk the streets.
