Slitherine Studios has announced the development of Battlefield Academy, an innovative turn-based-strategy title for the PC.
The game recreates over 30 battles from World War 2 in a variety of settings, including Normandy, the North African Desert and the Ardennes mountains.
Interestingly, the project was originally devised as a companion game to the 2004 TV series Battlefield Britain and has since been developed by Slitherine into a full single and multiplayer experience.
The team at Slitherine looked to the University of Wolverhampton’s military historian Professor John Buckley to ensure that real world military tactics were instilled into the game’s AI. With a completely script-driven game engine, players will be able to create their own missions and, thanks to a “revolutionary server-based Play by E-Mail Slitherine system” the multiplayer game will apparently appeal to newcomers and strategy veterans.
The game is now available to pre-order here.
And in case you’re wondering where you’ve heard the name Slitherine Studios before, you’re probably a fan of Spike TV’s Deadliest Warrior.
