Team Meat has announced that ‘Tofu Boy’ (the character featured in a PETA-created parody of Super Meat Boy) has been added to the line-up in the PC version of the real game.
To unlock the Tofu terror, players need to simply navigate to the character select screen (assuming you have the latest Steam update for the title) and type the special code word ‘petaphile.’ At this point, an unlock sound will play and selecting Meat Boy will actually select Tofu Boy. His unique skill is listed as “Inflated Ego,” balanced somewhat by “Not actually as effective as he thinks he is.”
Team Meat’s Edmund confesses in the post that “I actually repeatedly made fake user names in Peta’s forum pushing the game at them in hopes something like this would happen,” before mentioning that PETA were perhaps foolish not to realise that “Meat Boy isn’t made of animal meat, he’s simply a boy without skin.”
He also has some empathy with the famously-militant group, saying “I was Vegetarian for many years, and was an animal control officer who saved animals for a living for a long time.” As Edmund goes on to explain, however, “I don’t support an organization who is 100% against all animal testing, because that would mean my best friend in the world would be dead.”
Team Meat has confirmed that Tofu Boy will not be coming to the Xbox 360 version of the game.
