Gilgamesh Island can be a tricky location, even for the most skilled Final Fantasy players. This guide covers everything you need to know about Gilgamesh Island in FF7 Rebirth including how to unlock it, how to defeat all bosses, and all rewards.

How to unlock Gilgamesh Island in FF7 Rebirth

Gilgamesh Island is a secret location in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth that only becomes available once the player completes all Phenomenon Intel and acquires the Protorelic for all regions. There are six regions in FF7 Rebirth, each consisting of four Phenomenon Intel. Once you complete the four Phenomenon Intel in a region, you will earn the Protorelic for that region.

Once you complete all Phenomenon Intels (12 in total) and collect the Protorelics, Gilgamesh Island will become available in the Merdian Ocean. A new waypoint will appear on the map, which you can travel to by using Cid’s ship.

How to start Gilgamesh Island quest

Unlocking Gilgamesh Island is only the start since you can’t do anything on the island until you collect Summon Materia. There are four shrines located on Gilgamesh Island, each requiring two specific Summon Materia to activate it. You need the Summon Materia of the following:

• Titan
• Kajuta
• Phoenix
• Bahamut Arisen
• Alexander
• Odin

Players can collect Summon Materia by finding all Summon Crystals scattered across each of the game’s six regions.

After finding all Summon Crystals in a region, a new activity for Chadley’s Combat Simulator will unlock that puts the player up against a specific summon. Defeating the Summon in the Combat Simulator will reward the player with the Summon Materia of that specific enemy. For example, defeating Phoenix in the Combat Simulator will reward you with the Phoenix Summon Materia.

Once you collect all Summon Materia, you’re able to activate the Phenomenon Intel Shrines on Gilgamesh Island and officially start the quest toward defeating Gilgamesh.

How to beat Titan and Bahamut Arisen – Shrine of the Hazy Moon

Similar to how you defeated the solo versions of Titan and Bahamut Arisen in the Combat Simulator, you want to inflict Wind damage to Titan and Synergy Attacks on Bahamut Arisen. These are their weaknesses, leading to the most damage output. Double-check you have Wind Materia equipped before starting the battle.

I recommend focusing on Bahamut Arisen first, mainly because this enemy has more ranged attacks that can inflict damage to your party members from a great distance. Removing the hassle of watching out for Bahamut’s ranged attacks can make taking down Titan much easier.

Make sure to save all your Limit Breaks for when the bosses are staggered since they are more effective this way. I would suggest having Tifa, Cloud, and Barrett in your party where Tifa and Cloud are up close dealing damage, and Barrett is inflicting damage from a distance and healing your party.

How to beat Phoenix and Kujata – Shrine of the Moonbow

The most important thing you need to know about fighting Phoenix and Kujata is that you must defeat Phoenix first. If you don’t, Phoenix will revive Kujata and you’ll have to defeat him again.

Keep in mind that Phoenix is weak to Ice attacks (when its Flame of Life is deactivated), so make sure to enter battle with one of your characters equipped with Ice Matera. I also recommend you include Barrett in your party so he can inflict damage from a distance and heal party members when their health is low.

Focus on Phoenix, inflicting Ice damage and executing ATB abilities as much as possible. Enough Ice attacks will cause Phoenix to become pressured, and then eventually staggered, opening up an opportunity to deal tons of damage. Once Phoenix is defeated, it’s time to turn your attention toward Kujata.

Kujata’s weakness changes depending on its form. When it’s in its Ice form, focus on using Fire attacks. Meanwhile, when it’s in its Fire form, focus on using Ice attacks. Kujata isn’t difficult once you focus on using the proper weakness.

How to beat Alexander and Odin – Shrine of the Full Moon

Alexander and Odin is arguably the toughest duo boss on Gilgamesh Island, mainly because Odin is one of the hardest fights in the game period. What you want to do here is focus on taking out Alexander’s arms first and foremost, and then unloading Synergy attacks, ATB abilities, and Lightning attacks (weakness) on his torso. It’s essential you take out its arms first or you won’t do much damage.

Once Alexander is defeated, it’s time to turn your attention to Odin. Unfortunately, Odin has no weaknesses meaning you’ll have to get strategic with your attacks. Try to pressure Odin by evading his attacks and landing ATB abilities.

The best way to go about this is to attack with Barrett from a distance to fill up his ATB gauge and draw Odin’s attention. Then select a high-damage ATB ability (such as Maximum Fury). Then after selecting Barrett’s ATB ability, switch to another party member and attack to fill their ATB guage and draw Odin’s attention. Repeat the process until he is pressured and eventually staggered.

How to beat Gilgamesh – Gilgamesh Gardens

Once you defeat the six summons, you’ll unlock the main door leading to Gilgamesh Gardens to fight the final boss of Gilgamesh Islands. Luckily, Gilgamesh is a solo fight so you only have to focus on one enemy. This boss is actually much easier than Alexander and Odin.

Gilgamesh is weak to Fire attacks, so make sure to come equipped with Fire Materia. Inflict Fire to build up the pressure bar and save Limit Breaks for when he is staggered to quickly drain his health bar. I recommend using Poison and Debrave on him, which is another weakness of his. Poison will slowly reduce his health, while Debrave will make his attacks weaker and deal less damage.

Gilgamesh Island rewards

After completing all battles and defeating Gilgamesh on Gilgamesh Island, you will earn the Gilgamesh Summon Materia and legendary Genji armaments. Additionally, you will unlock Brutal and Legendary difficulty modes for the Combat Simulator.

The following Genji Armaments are unlocked after completing Gilgamesh Island:

• Genji Gloves: Breaks the 9.99 damage limit.
• Genji Earrings: Increases damage dealt by 15% but also increases damage taken by 15%.
• Genji Ring: Reduces damage taken by 15% but also reduces damage dealt by 15%.

Players will also be rewarded with Transmuter Chips for all Genji Armaments, unlocking the ability to craft the armaments once the Craftmanship level reaches 16.
