How to unlock Kyle in The First Descendant

The First Descendant Kyle Unlock
Screenshot: PC Invasion

Before you can play with Kyle in The First Descendant, naturally, you’ll need to unlock him. Here’s how to get Kyle:

  • 400,000 Gold
  • Kyle Enhanced Cells
    • 200,000 Gold
    • 554 Carbon Crystal
    • 303 Hellion
    • 58 Inorganic Biogel
    • Kyle Enhanced Cells Blueprint
  • Kyle Stabilizer
    • 200,000 Gold
    • 519 Metal Accellerant
    • 499 Monomolecular Extractor
    • 76 Deformed Biometal
    • Kyle Stabilizer Blueprint
  • Kyle Spiral Catalyst
    • 200,000 Gold
    • 408 Ceramic Composite
    • 455 Reverse Charging Coil
    • 30 Compound Carbon Activator
    • Kyle Spiral Catalyst Blueprint
  • Kyle Code

That’s a pretty long shopping list, but obtaining the research materials isn’t the worst part. Farming for Kyle’s Core Research Materials (Blueprints and Code) is the bane of anyone trying to unlock a new Descendant.

To make things easier, I’ve gathered the best way to get and unlock all of Kyle’s Blueprints and Code in The First Descendant:

Kyle Core MaterialAmorphous Material PatternHow to earn Amorphous Material PatternHow to reconstruct Amorphous Material PatternKyle Core Material drop chance
Kyle Enhanced Cells063Complete Sterile Land The Repository: Vulgus Strategic Outpost (HARD)Complete Void Fusion Reactor: Sterile Land Repository (HARD)20%
Kyle Stabilizer058Complete Kingston Slumber Valley (HARD)Complete the Executioner Void Intercept Battle (HARD)32%
Kyle Spiral Catalyst055Complete Kingston Fallen Theater: Vulgus Strategic Outpost (HARD)Complete Void Fusion Reactor: Kingston Grand Square (HARD)10%
Kyle Code073Complete Vespers Lost Supply Depot: Vulgus Strategic Outpost (HARD)Complete Void Fusion Reactor: Vespers Lost Supply Depot (HARD)20%

Unfortunately, deconstructing the Kyle Spiral Catalyst can only be done on Hard mode, which is unlocked after completing the campaign.

This means that there’s little point in grinding for the other Blueprints and Code on Normal mode for minuscule chances. So if you do want Kyle, I’d suggest completing the game first to dramatically improve your chances, meaning much less grinding will be required.

Now that we know how to get Kyle, let’s go over his skills and recommended equipment.

Kyle playstyle and skills explained in The First Descendant

To effectively use Kyle in The First Descendant, you’ll need to best know all his skills and how he plays so you can effectively beat down your enemies.

Kyle Skills In The First Descendant

Here are all of Kyle’s skills in The First Descendant:

  • Experienced Technician is Kyle’s passive skill. When his shields are depleted, he gains Magnetic Care (this does have a 300 second cooldown). This increases his shield and Magnetic Force recovery. This means that upon losing his shields, he gets a boost to recover them. This also controls his maximum Magnetic Force, which is proportional to his max shields.
  • Repulsion Dash charges Kyle forth to knock back and damage enemies he collides with, and this can stack up to three times. Hitting enemies with Repulsion Dash increases his Magnetic Force. When this skill ends, he gets a DEF boost of 150% for 5 seconds.
  • Magnetic Bulwark casts a magnetic shield in front of Kyle that blocks incoming projectiles. Every hit against the barrier fills up Kyle’s Magnetic Force proportional to the damage blocked.
  • Magnetism Spurt enters Kyle into the Magnetism Spurt state. When hit in this state, Magnetic Force is consumed instead of shields and health. When Magnetic Force is depleted, or by interacting with the skill again, the consumed Magnetic Force is unleashed as a blast, dealing damage to enemies proportional to the amount of Magnetic Force consumed. When the skill ends, nearby allies’ Shields are replenished proportionate to Kyle’s max shield.
  • Superconductivity Thrusters allow Kyle to soar into the air and then dive bomb into the ground, damaging enemies proportional to the amount of Magnetic Force consumed. This skill consumes all available Magnetic Force.

The crux of Kyle’s playstyle is essentially tanking as much damage as possible to allow for explosive plays that nuke groups of enemies at a time. In doing this, you’re also taking the heat off your allies and helping to keep their shields up.

Building up Magnetic Force through Repulsion Dash and Magnetic Bulwark and then discharging it through Magnetism Spurt and Superconductivity Thrusters is the skill loop that Kyle employs to switch between defending his allies and punishing his foes.

If you are to play Kyle, you’ll need to be on the frontlines, dealing with enemies to allow your allies to pick them off before you blast them to smithereens yourself.

Best Kyle build in The First Descendant

Now that we know how best to play Kyle in The First Descendant, let’s go over the best gear for him.

Best Kyle Modules

The Modules that you equip for Kyle will make determine how much damage his Magnetic Force can supply. As you level up your Mastery, prestige Kyle, and use Energy Activators, you’ll be able to hold more of the Modules to punish your foes.

Here is a list of all the Modules I’d recommend for Kyle:

Kyle ModuleModule Effects
Self-Directed EruptionWhen using Magnetism Spurt, Magnetic Force is now consumed every second to attract enemies. The explosion deals great damage to nearby enemies.
Dual ClawReplaces the regular Sub Attack with a Dual Claw.
Focus on Non-AttributeIncreases Non-Attribute Skill Power and reduces cooldowns.
Focus on DimensionIncreases Dimension Skill Power and reduces cooldowns.
Skill ExpansionIncreases Skill effect range.
MultitalentedWhen using a Dimension Active Skill, Skill cooldowns are reduced.
Amplification ControlIncreases Skill effect range and Max Shields.
Increased ShieldIncreases Max Shields.
An Iron WillWhen Shields are low, DEF increases.
Spear and ShieldIncreases DEF and Skill Power.
Nimble FingersReduces Skill Cooldowns.
Shield CollectorUpon defeating an enemy, instantly recover some Shield.

Kyle’s recommended Modules mostly deal with increases his max shields and DEF, as his max Magnetic Force is proportional to his max shield. So an increase in max shields allows him to store more Magnetic Force to make his attacks more powerful.

Naturally, as Kyle is also all about large explosive attacks, you’ll want to increase his Skill Power to make sure that when he does use his Magnetic Spurt or Superconductivity Thrusters, he’ll deal huge damage.

Make sure to upgrade these Modules to make the most out of them!

Best Kyle Reactor Stats

Considering Kyle’s skills are all Non-Attribute, you’ll want a Materialized Reactor, as these ones benefit from Non-Attribute Skills.

There are different types of Materialized Reactors that pair well with different skill types. Kyle’s Repulsion Dash and Superconductivity Thrusters skills are Tech Skills, and magnetic Bulwark and Magnetism Spurt are Dimension Skills.

If you want his Dimension Skills to receive higher damage, go for a Materialized Phase Reactor. If you want his Tech Skills to receive higher damage, go for a Materialized Mechanics Reactor.

I’d personally recommend you go with the Materialized Mechanics Reactor as both of those skills deal damage as opposed to his Dimension skills.

Best Kyle External Components

Kyle may already be pretty strong, but External Components can help bring him up to higher standards.

As different components can help with the same stats, I’ll mention the stats that you’ll want to have increased and the most powerful External Components for the job:

  • Increase DEF
  • Increase max Shield

Considering Kyle is a tank, you’ll want the External Components to reflect this. Again, the more shields you have, the more Magnetic Force you can have, increasing the damage dealt from specific skills.

You could alternatively select an External Component that increases his HP Recovery, as you’ll need all the help you can get should his shields run dry, but that shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

Best weapons for Kyle in The First Descendant

Although Kyle has some staggering abilities, you’ll need an equally staggering gun to dispatch your enemies whilst you’re building up your Magnetic Force.

Thunder Cage The First Descendant Valby Build

For Kyle, I’d recommend the Ultimate weapon Thunder Cage.

The Thunder Cage is the easiest Ultimate weapon to farm for, allowing you to make it incredibly powerful in a relatively short period of time. The Overcharge ability has a set chance for defeated enemies to deal additional damage to other enemies which is great for keeping enemies at bay.

For your other weapons, I’d strongly suggest a Shotgun and a Hand Cannon. Considering you’ll be up close to your enemies on the front line, the Shotgun will allow you to blast away groups of enemies, and the Hand Canon will provide a more accurate means to focus on a single enemy at a moderate range.

Now that you know all you need to dominate with Kyle in The First Descendant, all you need to do is grind to get everything you need. Make sure you know how to get all the research materials!
