Aska: All resources and how to get them

This guide will go over the resources available in early access for Aska. Because of the game’s current state of constant updating, we’ll up this piece as more resources get added.

Bark

Getting and farming bark is rather easy, and it’s one of those resources you’ll find often. To get bark, you can bring down either Firs or Young Firs. However, make sure you look for tree stumps. Those give out the bark. Each stump yields about five Bark. It can also be gathered by villagers. Breaking down stumps is another way to farm Firewood as well.

Beetroot

What I like about Aska is that the game is alive, and everything changes every day. Not only do things change on the daily, but they also alter seasonally. This means certain resources can only be earned during specific times of the year. Beetroot is one of those resources that can only be found in the fall and winter months on the ground. However, Beetroot can be farmed when you get Beetroot seeds. But note, that you can only farm these during the winter.

Berries

One of the more common food resources you can get in Aska. It seems to only be found and grown during the summer and spring months by harvesting berry bushes. So if you can’t find any, there’s a good chance it’s out of season. It can also be grown once you have the farming going. However, just like Beetroots, you’ll need Berry seeds to do that. Just be warned, if you have a bunch in your inventory, eat as much as you can, or trade them. They will go bad and poison you if you eat rotten Berries.

Bone Fragments

When you have a weapon like a knife, you can harvest Bone Fragments from animals or Skeletons. It also seems that for certain creatures in Aska, a hammer would do just fine. You won’t run into Bone Fragments until you’re getting attacked or going out of your way to hunt.

Cabbage

Like most food resources in Aska like Barries, Cabbages can be found on the ground during the summertime. I haven’t found any during the Fall, but players have reported that this season also helps grow the vegetable. So, you probably have a large window when searching for Cabbages. However, they can be farmed as well provided you have the seeds.

Carrot

Following the same path as finding and farming Cabbages, Carrots are the same thing. They grown during the summer and fall seasons, and are found on the ground. Cabbages can also be grown on the farm. On top of that, they also seem to be one of the fastest food resources to grow on the farm. While a single Carrot won’t fill up your hunger gauge, you can get an abundance of them allowing you to eat as many Carrots as you can.

Coal

You won’t find Coal in the world, you’ll have to make it. By gathering and putting Firewood into your Bloomery which is your metal crating apparatus, you can acquire coal. With Coal, you can use it to fuel campfires even better than with just Firewood.  You can also get Coal by cooking, but that means you’d need to ruin your food by overcooking it. Doing this will yield a large amount of coal, but it comes at the cost of your food.

Fiber

Like Coal, Fiber cannot be found natively in Aska. To get Fiber you can break down things like Bark or Flax. Plus, if you have Fiber seeds, you can grow them on the farm. However, it does seem to only grow in the winter like Beetroot. I’ve found Fiber from looting Wisps that attack my base. They seem to come during certain nights, so this way might not be as consistent as the other two. If you know how to get Fiber early on, building your village can be done quickly as it’s one of the more important village building resources.

Feathers

Feathers can be found next to trees in Fallen Bird’s Nest. To help you identify one press Z on your keyboard, and should be a circular object next to a tree on the ground. By harvesting these nests, you can find the Feathers and Wild Eggs that can be eaten. I highly suggest you find as many Feathers as you since they can help you develop arrows.

Garlic

You can usually find Garlic in the same areas as Carrots and Cabbages. On top of that, they are more common than the other two. The reason is that they are grown during the Spring, Summer, and Fall months of Aska. They can also be farmed, but make sure you’re doing that in the same seasons that they can be found in the wild.

Gray Mushrooms

These mushrooms can be found throughout the year, but they seem to only pop up shortly after it rains. However, it doesn’t look like they can be grown, so the only way to find them is by searching for the Gray Mushrooms. They are safe to eat, however, your screen will go green because you’re tripping out. When you’re under the influence, you can still play the game, your screen will be green for a few minutes.

Hardwood Logs

There are two types of Logs in Aska, this is the heavy-duty variant. You can only get Hardwood Logs from Birch Trees. Since these trees are tougher than the standard Fir, you’ll need an Iron Axe to cut it down. Note, these trees are a little rarer, so it’s best to look for them once you’re able to  — which might be mid-game.

Hardwood Long Sticks

Earned the same way to get the Hardwood Logs. You’ll need an Iron Axe which is made in the Bloomery. Hardwood Long Sticks are great because, like Hard Logs, they can help build sturdier structures.

Jotun Blood

The main way to recruit villagers is by harvesting the blood through the Jotun Blood Shard Stones. You can tell what these shards are by how they look. They have a blueish/green glow that is infused with the rock itself. To break them down, use a pickaxe, it’s one of the starter tools. You’ll earn about five Jotun Blood per shard you break down.

Large Stones

To get Large Stones, look for any Stone Clumps. Out of all the resources in Aska, Stone Clumps seems to be the most popular. You’ll run into one everywhere. By breaking down the clumps you can get the Large and Small Stones. Per clump there are two Large Stones, this means you’ll need to either have a Stonecutter Pit, or you need to farm for them. Both these methods will reward you with a high amount of stones

Leather Scrapes

I’ve found these scrapes can only be found one way, which is by killing animals like the bear. Other enemy types may drop it, but that’s been unconfirmed.

Logs

The little brother of the Hardwood Log can be found by cutting down Fir Trees. These trees are far more popular than their counterpart. Cutting down Fir Trees will also give you Bark via the Stumps and sticks

Long Stick

By cutting down Young Fir you can get around four Long Sticks. However, I’ve found Long Sticks by cutting down Fir Trees and breaking down the Logs. If you cut down the bigger trees, you get more Long Sticks but no Logs

Metal Scrapes

These are rarer, they seem to drop from certain enemies, at least for me. Specifically Skeletons and Wraiths. However, some players have stated that Dragurs drop them as well, but the rate is much rarer. Consider making Metal Scrapes from your metal items like Iron Ore.

Mussels

Places near the shore have tons of unique resources like Mussles. If you’re near water, look for yellowish rocks with purple stuff sticking out of them, that’s your indication of being in an area with tons of Mussels. Note, once you pick and harvest them in a location it might take some time before they grow back again.

Onion

As stated with Cabbages, Carrots, and Garlic, you can find Onion on the ground. They also grow during most parts of the year such as Summer, Spring, and Fall. Additionally, they can be farmed, so you don’t have to forage for them.

Raw Red Meat

Earning this food source is a little hard because you have to go up against bears or wolves. They are a task to take down alone, so be prepared when fighting either animal. To harvest the Red Meat, you’ll need a knife just like the Bone Fragments. They can be broken down have smaller portions as well. Just remember to cook it before you eat.

Resin

To get Resin simply chop down any tree. It seems the bigger the tree, the more you’ll get. However, if you’re chopping down Fir or Birch Trees, make sure you cut down the Logs to Long Sticks. This is when Resin starts popping up.

Thatch

When you’re looking for Mussels near water, you can also find Reeds. If you press Z, you can see they stand out because they are taller than most things in the area. Next, when you harvest Reeds you can get Thatch. To take it a step further, you can break down the Tatch to get Flax.

Yellow Mushrooms

As with the other mushrooms in Aska, this one comes out after the rain stops, but it seems to appear mostly during the Fall months. Note, that this mushroom will mess you up as it is poisonous. Its effects seem to last longer than the Gray Mushroom’s, so make sure you cook the mushrooms before consuming them.

But more than anything, in Aska, you’ll need food and water.
