The whole secret behind the A Dance of Masks festival has been unveiled, and it is time to fight the one behind it. Here is how to complete the Razmir Place stronghold in Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous A Dance of Masks.
Full Razmir Palace stronghold walkthrough in Pathfinder WOTR A Dance of Masks, explained
As part of the information we received when A Dance of Masks was announced, the new stronghold is one of the DLCs most important attractions for Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous. While the DLC story leaves room for some exploration and side quests, it is pretty linear, meaning that you will encounter almost every part of the content naturally by progressing the linearity of the main quest, A Grand Masquerade.
In the case of the Razmir Palace stronghold, you will unlock it after beating the cultist in the suspicious house basement and finding out that the one behind the whole Commander-themed festival was Razmir, a self-proclaimed god with a cult following – therefore, the cultists.
Pathfinder WOTR Dance of Masks: Razmir Palace arrival
Once you discover Razmir is the one behind all of this celebration, go through the portal and you will arrive at his palace. However, the very first section of this stronghold is text RPG. This means that you will have to travel around the palace via dialogue options, with every consequence happening via a block of text.
You can choose to approach each situation in a calm, frenetic, or straight-up violent and merciless way, but there is basically no long-term consequence for the actions you take. Choosing to fight from the get-go or let the Razmir cultist imprison you will eventually lead you to the same path choice: either you take the stairs or you go through some mysterious door. I chose the latter.
You get to a lab with two scientists. You can choose to listen to their banter and get some lore, or just straight up mash their heads against their equipment with deadly intent – that is, killing them. Fight them if you wish to continue. Afterward, by using your Perception, you will find a secret entry to the palace’s chapel where you find Razmir preaching to his followers.
Stay listening to his preach, attack them all, or leave the chapel immediately. I stayed and listened to him preaching to understand their cult. Lore, am I right? Anyway, after deciding to leave the chapel you will eventually find Razmir and his followers. Fight them and, despite your efforts, you will be stuck in a room with your companions, with your powers being cut off by one of Razmir’s enchantments.
Thankfully, Rovus – one of our allies in Kenabres – jumped through the portal just after we did and was able to infiltrate the enemy lines by disguising himself as a cultist. He will unlock the door of our room and allow us to tackle the Razmir Palace stronghold. This time, with graphics and real fighting at last.
Pathfinder WOTR Dance of Masks: Corridor encounters
The very first you will see after choosing your companions – I would pick mostly melee and a couple of ranged and magic companions – you are met with just three followers in the corridor. You know what to do, right? Defeat them and don’t forget about the animated masks that they leave behind!
Continue down the corridor and take a left and one of the followers will be startled by your arrival and go through the room to your right. The whole stronghold will be alerted of your escape and presence in the palace’s corridors and rooms, but every major follower will try to convince you that they haven’t heard any fights and will, instead, choose to be very welcoming to you. I don’t know if this stems from fear or if they are trying to be deceiving strategically but don’t trust their intentions or lies and kill them on sight.
Pathfinder WOTR Dance of Masks: Dining room encounter
Anyway, once the follower finishes running out of the room, you will find a locked door in front of you and a door to your right that leads to the dining room. Let’s head there first. Once inside, the cultist dialogue that I mentioned earlier will ensue. He will try to convince you to join their meal while also acting oblivious to the fact that you and your party have escaped and they treat you and your followers as cultists who haven’t equipped their robes yet.
Anyway, while you can try the food and almost become poisoned – you won’t, of course, you are the Commander after all – you can choose to fight them and the encounter will play out pretty much the same. There are lots of cultists located around the dining room in several of the tables with the follower leader being stronger and a Mask Golem standing behind him.
The Mask Golem and the follower leader are the two main menaces here but don’t ignore the rest of the cultists since they can easily spam you with their attacks. Also, each of them leaves behind an animated mask, so don’t forget to get rid of them since they can be annoying thanks to their ability to continue dodging your attacks and getting on your nerves. Once you finish the encounter, get back to the previous corridor.
Pathfinder WOTR Dance of Masks: Mirror encounter
Unlock the door by using your lockpicking abilities and you will enter a room where a cultist leader is preaching to lesser cultists. He will then use Razmir’s power to instantly heal one of the cultists to the awe of the rest of the followers in the room. Once you approach them, you will find out that there was no healing after all: they staged the healing as a performance to further increase the other follower’s infatuation with Razmir – something that definitely doesn’t happen in real life, right?
You will be able to talk to them but not fight them at all. Your focus should be on the giant mirror behind them. Previously, all the followers in the room went through that mirror like it was Platform 9 and 3/4, making it a magic mirror that can teleport you across the several rooms in the palace. Try to use the mirror twice and the two scamming cultists will finally engage you in battle, with you quickly disposing of them. Time to go through the mirror!
Pathfinder WOTR Dance of Masks: Balcony and Mask Golem encounter
You will arrive at a balcony across the palace. Here, you will find a multitude of followers waiting to attack you as soon as they see you. They are spread all across the balcony, meaning that they have a lot of range of attack and can easily encircle you if you are not careful. Circumvent this by positioning your companions throughout the enemy line so that they can take care of each follower group evenly across the board. Your ranged companions will be of great help here.
Once you defeat every single one of the cultists, interact with the book to the right to gain a Lore: Religion entry and understand a bit more about the Razmir cult. Then, go through the mirror to your left. You will arrive at a room where you will become surrounded by multiple Mask Golems. Again, focus your melee companions on attacking each of the Mask Golems so that they prevent enemy attacks on your ranged companions.
Once you defeat them all, locate a magic mask for your left to discover that said magic is similar to the one Razmir used to take away the strength of your Commander’s powers. Interact with it and you will dispel the enchantment, regaining your powers. Once you do, don’t forget to collect all the loot in every single room you have cleared and head back to the dining room.
Pathfinder WOTR Dance of Masks: Throne Room encounter
Walk past the dining room and down the stairs and you will find yourself in the Throne Room. Razmir will now talk to his followers once again and convince them that they are invincible and they will be able to beat them through his power and blessings. Narrator: they didn’t. There are lots of cultists across the room and some are on the edge of the room. Use AoE attacks to destroy the majority of the enemies.
Winning the fight will trigger a dialogue between Razmir and… Razmir? Yeah, it turns out that the Razmir we’ve been talking to is not the real Razmir. He’s technically a manifestation and extension of the real Razmir himself. Don’t worry too much about it. The thing is that the real Razmir – or at least his projection – will be very displeased regarding the fake Razmir’s attempts to gather the Commander’s power and extremely reckless spending and the real Razmir will be inclined to let you go. However, the fake Razmir will swear he will defeat you in combat, so the real Razmir will allow it.
You will probably have already noticed that there are a bunch of Mask Golems across the room. Well, now they decide to attack you without mercy. Again, their positioning will be pretty spread out, so I would suggest ending the previous fight on the stairs. This will prevent them from surrounding you. You will also fight the fake Razmir who decided to take matters into his own hands.
Defeating Razmir and the Mask Golems will trigger the Mask Golem remains to combine themselves into a Greater Mask Golem and summon several Mask Swarms that can easily overwhelm you. Again AoE attacks will deal with them along with single target damage for the Mask Golem.
Pathfinder WOTR Dance of Masks: Final fight aftermath
After completing the fight, Razmir will be surprisingly nice to you. This whole ordeal was not something he wanted originally. It was just a way to discover the secret of your power. You can leave the place or even use your Mythic Path to sell the “secret” of your power to Razmir. I used the Trickster Mythic Path to sell a bunch of nonsense rituals to him. He will pay 100,000 gold coins for it. Nicely done!
He will then offer you to pick every piece of loot found in the dungeon as compensation for your troubles before letting you go. Upstairs, you will find another locked door with some loot behind it. Visit said room before heading out. Talk to Razmir again and head through the portal to leave the stronghold and return to Kenabres. Time for the actual celebration with your companions and the romance event we were promised. Don’t forget to try the new archetypes to see how they perform in Razmir Palace!
