Bounties and weekly activities are a thing of the past in The Final Shape. Let me show you how it works with our Destiny 2 Pathfinder guide: How to use it, which path you should take, and all the rewards.
What is Pathfinder in Destiny 2: The Final Shape?
The new Pathfinder system is Bungie’s attempt at consolidating weekly activities into a single screen. Gone are the days when you needed to keep track of Tower Vendors, Petra at the Dreaming City, Varicks, and Eris. Now, you can access these from the Director without visiting a planet.
There are two Pathfinders on the Starmap. The Ritual Pathfinder replaces weekly activities, and The Pale Heart Pathfinder is full of season-specific tasks.
How to use the Pathfinder in Destiny 2: The Final Shape
You can see the Pathfinder screen in the image above. There are six starter nodes on the left, and you can pick any one you like. Each node has a task, and you can move one node to the right when you complete it.
You’ll get a reward for completing each task, with a much more valuable reward for reaching the rightmost node. If you manage to complete the Pathfinder, you can pay Glimmer to reset it and start again. Keep in mind that there are diminishing returns for repeat clears.
Rewards and Pathfinder progress reset weekly, like most activities in Destiny 2.
It’s also worth noting that tasks in the Pathfinder are procedurally generated. This quirk means tasks are random, and your nodes may differ from other Guardians.
Which path should you take in the Pathfinder?
Bungie states that Pathfinder tasks can include many activities, including the following:
- Vanguard Strikes
- Nightfalls
- Onslaught
- Gambit
- Crucible
As these tasks can include PvE and PvP activities, it’s worth checking what each node requires so you can follow the route that’s right for you. I know plenty of Guardians don’t enjoy PvP, for example, but you can avoid those tasks with some planning.
All Pathfinder Rewards in Destiny 2: The Final Shape explained
The Ritual and Pale Heart Pathfinders have their own reward pools, so here’s what you can earn from each of them:
Ritual Pathfinder Rewards
First Three Clears
- Prime Engram
- Enhancement Prism
- 150 Bright Dust
- 25,000 XP
Following Seven Clears
- Enhancement Prism
- 150 Bright Dust
- 4,000 XP
All Subsequent Clears
- Enhancement Core
- 30 Bright Dust
- 4,000 XP
As you can see, the Bright Dust reward takes a real nosedive, so it may be best not to hit the Ritual Pathfinder too hard each week.
Pale Heart Pathfinder Rewards
Bungie has revealed the rewards for the Pale Heart Pathfinder and listed them as “paths.” A path is when you complete a full route of 5 nodes from left to right. Bungie explicitly states it’s more beneficial to complete a path over a group of random nodes.
1st Path Completion Reward
- Exotic Reward
- Powerful Tier 3 Engram (Pale Heart gear)
- One rank of Vendor Reputation
- 25,000 XP
2nd Path Completion Reward
- Exotic Reward
- Pale Heart Engram (focusable)
- 375 Vendor Reputation
- 25,000 XP
3rd Path Completion Reward
- Pale Heart Engram (focusable)
- 375 Vendor Reputation
- 25,000 XP
Subsequent Path Completion
- World Legendary Engram
- 150 Vendor Reputation
- 4,000 XP
As with the Ritual Pathfinder, the rewards have a substantially lower value on repeat clears. There’s so much to look forward to in the Final Shape, but if you’re a returning player, make sure you check out Onslaught for the powerful BRAVE arsenal.
