Destiny 2 players might want to turn in-game chat off to avoid spoilers before The Final Shape

Why are people like this?

The Destiny 2 Final Shape Expansion was briefly available thanks to a PlayStation error. Sadly, some players are using leaked information in the worst way possible. Here’s why Destiny 2 players might want to turn in-game chat off to avoid spoilers before The Final Shape.

Why you should turn in-game chat off before The Final Shape

The Final Shape expansion was briefly made available to several users on the PlayStation network. While we can only speculate on how or why, the bottom line is there are Final Shape spoilers everywhere. The Destiny Subreddit moderators have been working overtime to squash any potential spoiler threads, but it’s hard to avoid leaked info elsewhere.

There are already YouTube channels desperate for their five minutes of fame with early footage, and it’s a disaster I’m sure Bungie wasn’t expecting.

If you want to dodge Final Shape spoilers, you can easily avoid the Subreddit, X/Twitter, and even YouTube videos. It’s inconvenient but doable.

Sadly, some real pieces of work in the community seem oddly hellbent on making the situation worse. Destiny Bulletin tweeted a short message on X/Twitter reporting that people are using the in-game chat to post Final Shape spoilers. They simply finish the tweet by saying, “This is insane.”

I can’t think of any nicer words for it, so insane will have to do. It’s a sorry situation, but if you want to experience The Final Shape as intended, it may be best to turn off the in-game chat for now. Don’t let awful people ruin an expansion you’ve looked forward to for months. Here’s how to do it:

How to turn off in-game chat in Destiny 2

Fortunately, a spoiler-free Destiny 2 experience is only a few button presses away. First, bring up the menu and choose the Cog icon to the right.

Scroll down to Social at the bottom, and you can turn Text Chat off in the section at the bottom of the menu (pictured above). Oddly enough, my game says Text Chat is off by default. I’m sure I’ve never changed this, and my Text Chat was on, so it may be worth checking your settings.

While the spoilers are miserable for Bungie and fans alike, there’s still plenty of Exotics revealed by official sources to look forward to.
