Best Hades 2 Tools to unlock first: Rod of Fishing, Crescent Pick, and more

Go Fish!

If you want to upgrade your gear and unlock new abilities and weapons in Hades 2, then you’ll need to harvest raw materials during your runs using dedicated gathering tools. You need to unlock each of these tools before you can take them with you, though.

Because each gathering tool will score you a different type of resource, choosing the best ones at the start of the game can make a huge difference in your progression and growth. They’re all useful, but you should definitely prioritize some of them over others.

Which Gathering Tools Should You Unlock in Hades 2?

The best overall gathering tool in Hades 2 is the Crescent Pick. This pickaxe lets you mine Silver when exploring Erebus, the first region of the game. Silver is a rare and valuable resource used to unlock new weapons. Finding a weapon that you vibe with is the first step to success in Hades 2, so stocking up on silver is very important for a new player.

If you’ve already got a solid stash of silver, then the Tablet of Peace is the next best option. This book allows you to compel Lone Shades to return to the Crossroads, rewarding you with large sums of Psyche. You use Psyche to raise Melinoe’s Grasp, which increases the number of Arcana Cards that she can activate at once. You won’t be able to raise Grasp at the beginning of Hades 2, but it’s a good idea to start saving up Psyche for when the time comes.

The Rod of Fishing and Silver Spade aren’t as useful, but they’re still worth unlocking if you have enough materials. The Rod of Fishing lets you catch fish that you can sell for Bones, which are the standard currency used to purchase items from the Broker at the Crossroads. The Silver Spade lets you dig up seeds that can be planted and grown into useful materials. You may be better off saving your materials to unlock other upgrades before these two, however.
