Destiny 2: Fastest way to complete the Bring Down the Hammer quest

Machine Guns are my favorite type of heavy weapon in the game. Not only do they pack a punch, but they also have a bigger mag size, allowing you to spray your bullets for a considerable amount of time. That is why Bring Down the Hammer will be a fun quest to make since it will require us, Guardians, to use our Machine Guns to bring down combatants all across the galaxy to get the Hammerhead, a Forsaken weapon – now a Brave weapon – that is now available for us to pick if you complete one of the objectives below:

  • Rapidly defeat combatants using Machine Guns anywhere in the system. Bonus progress for rapid final blows in Onslaught.
  • Defeat combatants in Vanguard Ops activities using Machine Guns. Bonus progress for higher difficulty Nightfalls.

In the case of the Bring Down the Hammer quest, there are two possibilities that I would suggest you consider for its completion. The first and second ones are straightforward: defeat enemies with your Machine Gun kills either in Onslaught or through Nightfalls. The latter is possible thanks to the 1810 gear you will be able to pick at the Hall of Champions. However, out of the two, Onslaught is the better option since you will have more enemies to kill, and since Nightfall is a linear activity, increasing the chances of your fellow Guardians stealing some of your kills.

Play Onslaught in Mothyards

Mothyards is the perfect map to pick to farm rapid Machine Gun kills. This is because you will have far more chances to kill enemies because the map is far more open than Vostok and Midtown. This will allow you and your team to focus on different hordes of enemies that will come toward you in hopes of destroying your ADU, making way for your Machine Gun to destroy enemies fast.

In my case, my weapon of choice will be the Avalanche Machine Gun I picked during the most recent Dawning event. While it might be an average Machine Gun, it does have Incandescent as one of its perks, making enemies die more frequently thanks to its scorch stacks. Combine any Machine Gun of its kind or any Machine Gun with AoE effects with explosive enemy Onslaught rounds and you will finish the quest and claim your Hammerhead as your reward. Just be sure to claim some Lord Shaxx bounties beforehand so you can increase his rank as well – you will need it later.
