While there are probably plenty of ways to break your Baldur’s Gate 3 save, this player found a way that ruins your chances of winning at all. One BG3 player accidentally broke the game by turning Ketheric Thorm to gold, making him invincible.
Turning Ketheric Thorm to gold during a boss fight makes him immortal
Although Ketheric Thorm was already basically immortal, you can still defeat him in the boss fight at the end of Act 2. That is unless you decide to use the item “Signed Trade Visa” on him. On the BG3 subreddit this one player described how they accidentally broke the game by turning Ketheric to gold, forcing them to lose a few hours on their playthrough.
Signed Trade Visa is a scroll you can find in BG3 that’ll cast Flesh to Gold on someone. You can obtain this item by paying 5,000 or more gold to Gerringothe Thorm. This player decided to use the Flesh to Gold spell with this scroll on Ketheric Thorm, but this was when he had the Invulnerable buff on him from Nightsong.
What happens here is he’ll still be petrified after you free Nightsong, and he’ll have resistance to all damage. At some point, he breaks out of the gold and acts normally, but once Ketheric reaches 0 HP he’ll stay alive, continuing to slaughter your entire party. Essentially, don’t try to use the Flesh to Gold spell on Ketheric Thorm before you’ve freed Nightsong.
This forced the player to go back to an older save file, losing a couple of hours in their playthrough. While it’s pretty funny to think about this strange glitch and how terrifying an unstoppable Ketheric can be, having to go back to an old save file can be annoying.
This isn’t the only time someone experienced a glitch with this spell. Another Baldur’s Gate 3 player received permanent buffs after being turned to gold.
