The Phantom Oxcart quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2 has multiple choices and can be hard to complete. In this guide, you’ll see what each choice gets you and how to finish The Phantom Oxcart quest in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
How to start The Phantom Oxcart in Dragon’s Dogma 2
You only get The Phantom Oxcart quest after returning to Vernworth after experiencing Bakbattahl. More quests open up after going back and forth between cities; for The Phantom Oxcart, you get from overhearing any citizen, particularly those by the Oxcart stations, talk about The Phantom Oxcart in Vernworth.
Once you have The Phantom Oxcart quest active, it’ll show you on the map where to find it. I recommend Dozing Off on a bench to pass the time until it is night. Then, make your way north to the speculated Phantom Oxcart location.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 The Phantom Oxcart: Should you let him go or escort him to Vermund
Once you arrive, you’ll see the Phantom Oxcart and a soldier. Ignore the oxcart for now and chase down the soldier — his name is Navil. After talking with him, he’ll give you a Merchant’s Document.
You have a choice to either accept his gold and let him go or escort him to Vermund. If you let him go, you’ll get 5,000 Gold but it could come back to bite you. I escorted him to Vermund to put an end to his Pawn trafficking days. Either way, you progress the quest.
I took the Merchant’s Document to Captain Brant at The Stardrop Inn. He tells you to either follow the Phantom Oxcart or disguise yourself as a Pawn and get captured by it. I tried following it multiple times and the Phantom Oxcart didn’t move, so let’s go with the Pawn disguise option — it’s more fun anyway.
Dragon’s Dogma 2 The Phantom Oxcart: Should you follow it or disguise yourself as a Pawn
Whether you follow the Phantom Oxcart or disguise yourself as a Pawn, the outcome is the same. I chose the Pawn disguise because it’s more fun and it was the only way for me to progress the quest.
To disguise yourself as a Pawn in Dragon’s Dogma 2, you need to unequip all your weapons and gear. Once you are in your undies, speak to the Oxcart driver and get into the back of the Phantom Oxcart.
The ride gets stopped by a group of Goblins. It’s important to not equip your weapons or armor and don’t command your Pawns. You’ll need to do this the old-fashioned way: with your fists.
After passing some checkpoints, the guards in Bakbattahl will see that you aren’t a Pawn. You can equip your weapons and gear and kill them. You’ll get the Labor Requisition Order which you need to turn in to Captain Brant in Vernworth to finish the quest. You can chain oxcart rides together to get there or use a Ferrystone.
