One of the best ways to survive the dangerous world of Dragon’s Dogma 2 is through the Pawn command system. You can give four Pawn commands: Go, Wait, To Me, and Help — this guide explains how and when to use each.
Dragon’s Dogma 2: When to use Pawn commands
Each Pawn command has its own purpose and can significantly change the tide of combat and exploration. Let’s go over each Pawn command in the following sections.
When to use the ‘Help’ Pawn command in Dragon’s Dogma 2
Help is one of the most essential Pawn commands in Dragon’s Dogma 2. The best time to use the “Help!” Pawn command is when you are being swarmed by a group of enemies, low on health, and need your Pawns to help take the load off. I use the Help command whenever I reach the red zone in my health bar, which has led to me surviving some pretty brutal fights.
You can also use it to have your Pawns take their attention away from smaller enemies and focus on the bigger and tougher ones. You can do this by using the Help command near the larger-sized enemy.
When to use the ‘Go’ Pawn command in Dragon’s Dogma 2
I can’t stress enough how much the Go Pawn command has helped me in Dragon’s Dogma 2. It’s not just a way to tell your Pawns to continue forward; it can lead you to points of interest and progress you further in a quest. Depending on your Pawn’s knowledge, using “Go!” can lead you to treasure chests, campfires, caves, etc. It can also help you collect more materials and resources.
I recommend using the Go Pawn command whenever your Pawn uses dialogue about the surrounding area. When your Pawn talks about the area you’re exploring, this is usually a hint from the game telling you to use the Go command. I recommend using the “Go” command as often as possible since it doesn’t hurt your party at all if you spam it.
When to use the ‘Wait’ Pawn command in Dragon’s Dogma 2
The best time to use the “Wait!” Pawn command is at night when venturing through the open world. For example, there were a couple of times when I was stuck in the open world at night, low on health, with zero lantern oil, and was nowhere near a town or campfire. So, I used the wait command on my Pawns, allowing us to wait out the darkness until sunrise. This prevents them from wandering off.
Another reason to use the Wait command is to prevent your aggressive Pawns from initiating a battle with a tough enemy in the distance. For example, the tough Griffin can be found early in the game, but you’re not ready to fight it until mid- to end-game. So, in this case, you would use the Wait Pawn command.
When to use the ‘To Me’ Pawn command in Dragon’s Dogma 2
The “To Me” Pawn command is mainly used to bring your Pawns to your area. The only time I ever really use this command is to remove the “Wait” command. Once you use To Me, they will begin to follow you again.
Another reason you may want to use To Me is when you want to charge into battle and ambush a group of enemies. Run into battle, use “To Me,” and your Pawns will rush into battle with you.
That’s all there is to know about Pawn commands in Dragon’s Dogma 2! Now, you can fully utilize your pawns in and outside of combat. Make sure you learn about Pawn specializations to strengthen them even further.
