Your equipment may help you out, but what about specializing yourself in your unique role as a baseballer? Here are the best perks and how to unlock them in MLB The Show 24.
MLB The Show 24: Best perks for your player
Let’s get things out of the way: the best perks in MLB The Show 24 will depend on a case-by-case basis. This means that, depending on your Playstyle and position in the field, you will want to equip a different array of perks for you to boost your performance. For example, my character is a Two-Way Player, meaning that he is both a Pitcher and a Position Player. Moreover, he is a Closing Pitcher and a Power Hitter and plays in the First Base position as well. Taking all of that into account, I can have a better idea of what Perks to equip and what perks to avoid completely.
In MLB The Show 24, many Dynamic Perks will help you out in specific scenarios. For example, I have collected the following:
- Recharge: Increases pitch velocity and break while your energy is below 50% and runners are on base.
- Precision Strike: Slightly increased pitch accuracy and break during two strike counts with two out.
- Last Stand: Increased pitch accuracy with runners in scoring position when there are no outs.
- Cannon Arms: Outfielders throw harder when there are runners in scoring position.
- Wake Up: Contact and vision boost after your 3rd consecutive out.
- Spark Plug: Slight contact and vision boost in the 7th inning or later.
- Green Light: Slight exit velocity boost in 3-0 or 3-1 counts.
- Clear for Takeoff: Exit velocity boost on normal swings when the count is full.
Best perks in MLB The Show 24
As you can see, these will serve you well, but due to their nature, the Perks above are circumstantial and could work in the third or fourth slot – unless you find a really good and rare one which arguably are the best out of the game. With that being said, there are base Perks that will directly impact your stats and target your player’s Playstyle characteristics.
I would prioritize these before the ones above since they will leave a bigger mark on your player. Here are these base Perks and what position they will apply to best.
Perk | Description | Position |
---|---|---|
Break | This one is made for pitchers, especially starting ones since it will prioritize breaking balls. It will also help you increase your K/9 rate, which impacts how many swings and misses you can generate. | Break Pitchers |
Contact | Used by hitters, this Perk will allow you to gain Plate Vision as well as Contact (a more secure swing type) bonuses against left or right-handed pitchers, or both. Pick this if your position focus is on Contact, of course. | Contact Hitter |
Control | This perk will allow you to gain more stability for your breaking balls and also increase your HR/9, an attribute that, if improved, will limit the hitter’s ability to perform home runs. | Control Pitcher |
Fielding | Depending on your position in the field, Fielding will increase your FLD values so that you can deal with any balls coming your way. | Fielding Focus Players |
Power | Similar to Control, Power will increase your PWR attribute, allowing you to gain the upper hand Power-wise against pitchers. | Power Hitter |
Speed | This attribute will help you out in both batting and fielding scenarios. However, Speed will also come with attribute boosts like Baserunning Aggresion or Steal, allowing you to increase your ability to make a run. | Fielding Focus Players |
Velocity | Pitchers that focus on straight up ball speed will appreciate Velocity. This will improve the speed in which they can throw the ball. This Perk will complement itself with attributes such as Pitching Clutch, Arm Strength, or Durability. | Velocity Pitchers |
Each of these will have a specific rarity and variation (four variations per Perk per rarity), so make sure you have the best and rare Perks that you can find while opening Perk Packs.
How to unlock Perks in MLB The Show 24
Unlocking Perks, just like Equipment and other collectibles can be acquired through sheer luck. You see, as you gain experience and also collect Road to the Show or Diamond Dynasty points, you will eventually get Perk Trading Card packs that will grant you a selection of Perks for you to pick one.
This allows you to select the Perk that will suit you the most, which will help you out during your career as an up-and-coming star or team. Other than gaining XP in every single mode you can play in MLB The Show 24, you can focus on completing Road to the Show missions to get RTTS points, eventually unlocking Dynamic, Pitching, and Hitting Perks. Alternatively, you can purchase Perks in the MLB The Show 24 Community Market, but be prepared to pay a boatload amount of money.
