In Fortnite, there are many NPCs scattered across the map, and a few of them sell decent items if you have the Gold Bars. Even if you’re a cheapskate, all is not lost. Let me show you how to get free items from Aphrodite, Artemis, Medusa, or Poseidon in Fortnite.
How to get free items from NPCs in Fortnite
In Chapter 5, Season 2, there are 15 NPCs on the map. They don’t usually give their wares for free, but they do drop an item if you speak to them. As they are freebies, these items aren’t as exciting as a weapon or Icarus Wings, but a free Shield Potion can be the difference between life and death.
Each NPC will only drop a single item the first time you interact with them during a match.
Where are Aphrodite, Artemis, Medusa, and Poseidon in Fortnite?
As part of a Week 2 quest, you must speak to the new NPCs. You need three items in total, which can be completed across multiple rounds. Quest areas quickly become hot drops, so I recommend visiting these NPCs later in the match or traveling to one far away from the Battle Bus. I went to Reckless Railways for my first item, as it was a long distance away from the Bus. If you do the same, you’ll typically find Poseidon on the walkway above the tracks.
The locations of each NPC required for the quest are listed below, and their locations are numbered on the map above.
- #1 Aphrodite: South Coast by the buildings to the far east of Snooty Steppes
- #2 Artemis: Lavish Lair
- #3 Medusa: Northeast Edge of Fencing Fields
- #4 Poseidon: By the train tracks at Reckless Railways
Besides Medusa, each of these NPCs can be hired for 250 Gold Bars. While they don’t do much damage, they give your opponents extra targets and can provide you the edge in combat. I’m a fan of Artemis as she scans the area for threats, but they are all great allies. If you want to purchase anything from your new buddies, you must do so before you hire them; otherwise, they’ll draw their guns and be ready to shoot anything that moves.Â
Weekly quests are a great way to earn XP and are available for the entire season. If your playtime is limited, I recommend hitting the Snapshot quests first, as they are only available for a few weeks at a time.
