Call of Duty has a new melee weapon called the Soulrender, but if you want to unlock it for use in Modern Warfare 3 multiplayer and Warzone battle royale, you’ll need to complete some tricky challenges.
Added to Modern Warfare 3 and Warzone in the Season 2 Reloaded update, Soulrender is a deadly sword that can defeat enemies in a single strike. Thankfully, Soulrender is free for all players so you don’t even need to purchase the Battle Pass to obtain it.
It’s already one of the most popular melee weapons in the game, and given how often sweaty players like to use melee weapons like the Kali Sticks, you’re going to see a lot of this thing in your multiplayer matches and Warzone lobbies. If you’re like me and hate Riot Shield users with a passion, then you’ll also be happy to learn that Soulrender counters shields and can kill enemies even if they have one equipped.
How to Get Soulrender in MW3 and Warzone
To unlock Soulrender in Call of Duty, you need to activate Sector B21 of the Battle Pass and then unlock every reward within that sector to claim the blade as your own. Each item in this Sector requires you to complete a challenge to unlock it.
- JAK Burnout Kit: Get 5 Operator or Special Zombie Kills with Throwing Knives
- Bone Dome Emblem: Get 10 Operator or Special Zombie Kills with Melee Kills
- Double XP Token: Get 15 Operator or Special Zombie Kills with a Frag Grenade or Semtex
- Grave Robber Camo: Get 5 Operator or Special Zombie Kills with the butt of a gun
- Soulrender: Get 10 Operator or Special Zombie Kills with crouched melee kills
Using Throwing Knives, Frag Grenades, and melee attacks is easy enough, but the challenge for Soulrender itself places a frustrating twist on the formula. You need to get melee kills while crouching, which can be a huge headache if you don’t have a good strategy in place.
Easy Method to Get Crouched Melee Kills
Firstly, it’s way easier to do this challenge in Zombies. Trust me, trying to get close enough to an enemy player in multiplayer while crouched isn’t worth the hassle. Special Zombies are dangerous, sure, but their AI is dumb and they can be exploited.
If you want to go the Zombies route, then equip a melee weapon like the Riot Shield, Karambit, or Gutter Knife. Load into a match and immediately start farming Essence so you can Pack-a-Punch that melee weapon. If you have an ongoing exfil streak and have raised your Containment Level, this will be a breeze. Once you’ve Pack-a-Punched your melee weapon, it’s time to start hunting for Special Zombies.
It’s best to attempt this challenge in the easier gray areas on the Zombies map. Special Zombies will spawn more frequently in the orange Tier 2 difficulty zones, but they’ll have a lot more health and will be harder to take down. Either drive around in a car until you spot a Special Zombie (either a Mimic, Mangler, or Disciple) or find a Bounty contract so you can hunt one of them down.
Once you find one, just crouch and smack them with your Pack-a-Punched melee weapon until they fall over. Rinse and repeat 10 times and Soulrender is yours! If you’re still having trouble, try buying Juggernog and other perks to boost your survivability.
If you want to try this challenge in multiplayer, then the strategy is mostly the same. Equip a melee weapon like the Riot Shield or a knife of your choosing and then pick a small map like Das Haus or Shipment. If you’re using the Riot Shield, just crouch and slowly approach your targets to secure the kills. If you’re using a knife, find a corner and sit there waiting for your prey to walk in front of you. The crates on the edges of Shipment are perfect for this.
This challenge is a pain, but thankfully, you only need to do it once. You can also just buy Soulrender from the store (via the Dune Part Two Harkonnen Tracer Pack) if you’d rather not put yourself through that. It’s 2,400 COD Points and comes with some cool cosmetics, especially for Dune fans.
