Once again, Destiny 2 has opened up the Guardian Games and all the wonderful new buffs and boons that come with them. However, in true Destiny 2 fashion, they are rarely explained, and the Gold Contender’s Boon is confusing many players.
Here is what it does and why it is there.
What is the Gold Contender’s Boon
As you make your way up the ranks in Guardian Games, Destiny 2 will give you a helping hand in the form of the Contender’s Boon. With each rank, the Contender’s Boon will change, beginning with bronze and moving up to gold. These buffs simply help you achieve a higher score in both Training and Competitive modes.
This buff will improve weapon damage. Damage to enemies with weapons will also greatly improve the ability recharge rate. The Gold Contender’s Boon makes you an absolute monster in Destiny 2, helping you rack up the medals for your chosen class.
Whenever the Boon is active, you will be able to move through enemies much more easily. However, it is not a buff that can be used in PvP—that wouldn’t be fair. The ability is only available when playing in the Strikes and Nightfall playlists. With this extra damage and ability recharge rate, it becomes much easier to push through the ranks and complete the Guardian Games events faster to get those medals and rewards.
How to get the Gold Contender’s Boon
This buff is only available during the Guardian Games in Destiny 2. It resets with each new week and expires as soon as you reach Platnum. There is no Platnum Contender’s Boon because it is a buff intended to help Guardians reach the top level quickly. Once you’re at the highest level in Destiny 2, you no longer need a Contender’s Boon because you’re already at the top of your game.
As you progress through the different tiers in the Guardian Games, you will notice your boon changes from bronze to silver and finally gold. Make the most of it while you can, it won’t be there for long. For me, it took a few hours of playing with a couple of great squads to progress from Bronze to Gold. However, if you’re a pro, you can easily do it in one with some fancy finishers and high combos.
The rank points look like this.
- Bronze – 50,000
- Silver – 100,000
- Gold – 150,000
- Platinum – 175,000
Bear in mind that if you take too long on an event, the darkness will envelop you. Once this happens, your score will start to drop.
