Trauma and psychosis are some of the most interesting things in Winter Survival. Trauma will affect either your left or right hemisphere in story mode or just the right one in Endless mode. In this case, picking your new disorder is a troubling choice.
All Psychosis and insanity choices in Winter Survival
Below is a list of every psychosis symptom in Winter Survival that you get to choose from. Note that in Endless mode, Psychosis: Hallucinations is already triggered, and you’ll start the game with 100% trauma, so you’ll be picking one of the others not long after starting the game.
- Psychosis: Hallucinations – Hallucinations of other animals may briefly appear
- Perception Fatigue – After Instinct Mode, your vision may blur. Shaking the head quickly may quickly remove this.
- Psychosis Delusion Prey – Prey animals, like deer and rabbits, may appear as hallucinations. Throwing rocks, snow, or approaching them will make the hallucinations disappear.
- Psychosis Delusion Predator – Predator animals, like wolves or bears, may appear as hallucinations. Throwing rocks, snow, or approaching them will make the hallucinations disappear. The hallucinations may attack you, only to dematerialize at the last second.
- Psychosis Disorientation – Objects may appear in the environment, concealing passages. Throwing something at them or approaching them will get them to disappear.
- Fear Of The Graves – Health will drain around graves that are active in the night time, distinguished by a blue flame.
You get to choose whatever symptom you want, but I’d recommend that you unlock them in the following order:
- Fear of the Graves
- Psychosis Disorientation
- Perception Fatigue
- Psychosis Delusion Prey
- Psychosis Delusion Predator
Fear of the Graves is only active at night, and you’ll want to be doing as minimal night-time travel as possible. Also, I’m fairly certain that Psychosis Disorientation only really comes into effect in the story mode, as I really could not tell a difference in my endless mode playtime.
How is insanity triggered in Winter Survival?
Upon going to bed with 100% Trauma in Winter Survival, the left or right hemisphere of your brain will be damaged. If the left hemisphere is triggered, then one of your adaptations will be marred. If the right hemisphere is triggered, then you get to choose a symptom for your growing insanity.
In Endless mode, only the right hemisphere can be damaged.
Trauma is earned by a number of negative status effects, and critically low base conditions. Being in the dark, around predators, feeling homesick, and so many other triggers will slowly cause your trauma to mount. There is no way to lower or negate your trauma, so at some point, you’ll be suffering with every affliction.
