Leave it to Call of Duty to somehow please people even when their game is on fire. While the current state of MW3 might be concerning, other players have found an interesting attachment to the main problem. So let’s take a look at how Modern Warfare 3’s rank reset completely broke SBMM.
Easier matches thanks to Modern Warfare 3’s broken SBMM
It’s been reported that players entering MW3 early on Friday ran into some interesting rank reset problems. While developers are probably working on a way to get everyone’s rank progress back, there is a silver lining. Call of Duty news accounts on X (formerly Twitter) such as CharlieIntel report that Skill Based Matchmaking (SBMM) is experiencing problems along with the server issues.

As this revelation has reached the ears of CoD players, many have taken to multiplayer and Warzone to test this out. Lo and behold, SBMM is all over the place giving people a relatively easier gameplay experience. For the most part, the player base sees this as an absolute win (for the time being), as the game doesn’t feel like you’re being thrown into the deep end right after you step into the pool.
Can you fix Modern Warfare 3’s broken SBMM?
Sadly, these SBMM issues are most likely tied to the overarching server issues currently plaguing MW3. This means players will have to wait until the developers solve the problem, a timeframe we still are unaware of.
But in all honesty from my time in MW3, I think players might get to enjoy the game for more than a few matches. SBMM has quite a rocky history with gamers, more so for FPS games. And while some people enjoy the challenge of fighting harder opponents, most players see SBMM as a vibe killer. However, MW3 players are probably used to these bugs by now, thanks to the Early Access campaign launch.
